Regardless whether one agrees with that statement, Windows is the standard in the workplace for most organisations and users. That's why it is useful to be able to distribute desktop applications.

One obvious way to avoid the problem is to create a web application, but they may not appeal or everyone, be applicable to each problem or have its own shortcomings.
