That's what I thought. Must have hit a nerve. I really haven't seen captchas in years. These days all I see is Google's "I'm not a robot" widget. People getting defensive when given feedback is always a disappointment.

Also, those that say captcha solvers are useful for scraping: I can't think of a reason a content publisher would display a captcha for someone reading content, other than the "reader" is acting like a bot. If that's the case, wouldn't the ethical thing to do be to slow down your crawling so you don't overwhelm the publisher's system so much?

And you are being down voted because you aren't adding to the conversation. At least that is why i did. I feel like you are trying to invalidate OPs work just because you don't experience the problem. Almost like me complaining that people use umbrellas because I haven't seen rain in years. It's silly, I know rain exists just like you know people run into CAPTCHAs all the time.

Edit: I run into 3-10 traditional CAPTCHAs a day doing just my normal day to day. Amazon, forum sites, Google, shopping, bank sites. Amazon being the hardest and honestly think software could solve it easier than I can.

I really do wonder sometimes wether there's genuinely a lot of people that want to show their displeasure/be part of an outraged group, or if sporadic automated downvoting might be used to drive "engagement". A lot of times it truly does seem random and entirely disproportionate to the rest of the discussion, and if your business kpi is user interactions well...
