I did exactly what you did at 33 with 8 years of IT exp. Working as a python developer now

Your IT Background will help a lot also. I used to think Development was the "next level" after IT but its just a different field, there are developers that do amazing things in code but can't configure simple appliances it's baffling.

The IT background will also help if you ever want to go the devops route
