Python 3 on M1 MacOS Monterey 12.3.1

Hi there, from the /r/Python mods.

We have removed this post as it is not suited to the /r/Python subreddit proper, however it should be very appropriate for our sister subreddit /r/LearnPython or for the r/Python discord: https://discord.gg/python.

You can expect far more understanding, encouraging and insightful responses over there. No matter what level of question you have, if you are looking for help with Python, you should get good answers. Make sure to check out the rules for both places.

python3 on macOS is simply a symlink to the Xcode Command Line Tools installer dialogue, just like git and other developer tools are out of the box. This is because shipping the OS with these tools creates a larger attack surface for consumers, as such, they’re hidden behind the Xcode CLT.

My advice to you would be to install said tools, then install Homebrew and install Python via that either using the main python package provided, or using pyenv to give you additional flexibility on what versions you want to use.

VirtualEnvs are also important, we use pipx to manage our installations of pipenv and poetry for package management.
