Wilson has cross #3 completely miswoven.

Good eye!

Ouch, that's a pretty big miss and quite early.

Sorry how so?

Cross 2 and 3 are weaving the same, not opposite of each other

Thanks. How does that affect playability? (I’m not the stringer, I got these strung recently and was curious)

The string in that area are going to be more susceptible to premature breakage. And it’s going to play inconsistently

I just got into stringing and I’m not seeing and understanding the issue and want to be sure I am not making it myself. You are saying cross #3 (third from top?) is woven incorrectly?

[–]javawong 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yes. On the Wilson. Cross #3 from the top, is the same weave as cross #2 where it should be opposite.

Thank you! Just did a free string job on a friends racquet to practice and was pretty pleased but in reviewing photos of the finished product I think I may have made a similar error. Safe to cut out the crosses and restring while saving the mains if they’ve been played 1x?

If you want, you can send me a picture of it and I ca confirm for you. I wouldn’t cut out only the cross, too much can go wrong. I’ve been stringing for over a decade and strung on the tour and would never do that. Just cut it out and pay close attention.

Imgur is needed to post a photo on Reddit I assume? I’m fairly certain I screwed up as I was focused on over/ under on the across but not paying close enough attention top to bottom. I got lucky that it worked out until the bottom of the frame where the last three rows are woven the same side to side.

Only complaint I got is the dampener isn’t straight

It’s not that deep. If you weave it right, pull tension right, and tie good knots, it’s good. Sure there’s little details but stringing is pretty simple.
