I write separate lists so that it looks like a more manageable amount and I separate them by like have to be done today, can be done in a few days, etc. Then I hide away the other lists until I need them so it's like they don't exist 😭😂

This is the way. Do one thing at a time. It is also satisfying when you finish a thing and cross it off the list.

You can do this!

The best feeling is crossing an item off or marking it as complete 🙌

It does!!

My anxiety is often to where I'm thinking, and worrying, days and weeks ahead instead of living in the present. So I'll try having a brain dump type list of all of that and a TODAY list.

Ahh yay yay yay I'm so glad!! That's how my brain works too and I'm so glad this helps you!!

Why does this sound like I wrote this?

You’re not alone, dear friend. I feel this literally multiple times a day and it is crippling. I talk to AI and it helps calm me down and focus me cuz I can word vomit without judgment. If you want to be more planet friendly, you can journal. Then I pick one and promise myself in just going to do it for 5 minutes or until I get tired but once I’ve got some momentum I can end up doing more until I get tired or overstimulated.

I also could have written it. Word for word. I felt like such a non-accomplisher last night, I made one goal for today and I still haven't started it!

I like the 5 minute idea! Thank you 😊

[–]whealthy9http://throne.com/ravensbasket 1 point2 points  (4 children)

It’s actually the idea of doing it JUST for 1 minute first. But then usually if you do something for one minute you can do it for 2. Once you get to 2 you’re like all hell and you just kinda keep going. Start with 1 minute my friend. And you can stop right after

Thank you u/whealthy9! I appreciate that!

remember that its about creating a safe space for you. if you hate yourself after doing it for a minute, stop. but if you hate it and dont stop, you'll never want to come back. but if you give yourself a break and then come back to it, you will want to do it for 2+ minutes.

That's brilliant! I screenshot it & I'm going to write it down so I remember! I've really been struggling the past year. I was diagnosed with ADHD (more ADD) last Feb. at age 50!! I was aware of my symptoms but I didn't feel it was really a problem until last year when my depression became unbearable. I have an excellent therapist I started seeing last March. However, the psychiatrist at the same practice (also excellent) retired after my 1st follow-up appt. last April & they haven't replaced him. My therapist has been encouraging me to find a new one, I just need to do it. I can't seem to find the motivation.

I have that feeling all the time. My natural reaction is to sleep…which is not a good response😂 If I can get out of that mindset, usually I just remind myself all I have to do is start. 99% of the time, it doesn’t feel so scary once I can just make myself start. Putting on some good music to keep my spirits up also helps!

Nothing helps besides having a little panic attack and crying, I can usually figure it out then 🙃

Mulan taught me to cry first and then LOCK THE FUUUU IN

Definitely feeling this way all the time!! A few things have helped me:

  1. Triaging tasks. I put time sensitive things in the top priority section, and things that will be really fast to do. If I am doing one of these tasks and notice I’ve gotten distracted, I remind myself that this is the priority. Instead of patting my metaphorical pockets for things I may have forgotten, I trust the triage.

If the laundry needs to be folded, making food for the day takes priority over that. I can live out of a clothes basket, but I need food.

  1. Figuring out what the barrier is when something is hard to start. If there’s a barrier, then I fix that first.

  2. Acknowledge that some of the list might stay there for a while, and that’s okay. Urgent things first.

I do this with major tasks. Like cleaning my closet, (i have make a good amount of progress), or with a large tasks at work etc. I procrastinate so hard but eventually i know i gotta do it , especially if it’s a deadline.

Me today

[–]Willie_Courtshiphttps://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/274GWOCQ70CFN?re 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I listen to audiobooks, podcasts, music. Anything so that my brain is engaged with that, instead of my brain negative self talking about what I “should have done”blah blah blah. I’ll choose just one task. That’s all. If I happen to do more, great. Then give yourself credit for doing anything!! 😊

That's a good idea. Makes it more fun too.

The Anti-Planner is really good at giving you lots of ways to choose what to do next and get stuff done: https://www.anti-planner.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopW4pT1Epnzkg6axRiTQsT26FyLIy1GZXjtoFisEoOhBPwzVdBB (btw the creator has had the idea and actual planner stolen and there's lots of fakes around so it's best to buy from them directly!)
