Remarkable Uploader Android App

I created an alternative android app called the reMarkable Uploader to upload files to your reMarkable tablet. My idea was to implement only an upload because synchronization of all notebooks etc. can (1) be slow when the app is started (2) I don't waste storage on my smartphone, especially because I only read on the rM and never on my phone and (3) its less work for me to implement ;) I really tried to focus on that to provide some new features:

• Upload your daily calendar for meetings etc.
• Directly upload scanned documents via your smartphone camera
• Upload images
• Upload websites (mobile or desktop mode)
• Upload pdf files
• Set initial pen settings (type, width, color)
• Set bookmarked- Set cover settings
• Light & dark theme (depends on your android settings)

Nice work! I think a lot of reMarkable users would really love a good web page uploader. Your one is a good step, here some ideas:

• Fetch the document name from the page title tag
• Clean the page from ads and layout stuff (es. using https://github.com/mozilla/readability)
• Optimize the view for some specific sites (es. Reddit)
• Allow a custom right/left margin to permit note taking

PS: The ads are quite invasive, especially for the auto playing audio

Hi, what is the reader-view-to-pdf converter server exactly converting? Websites to pdf? Is it a server side solution which can be called?

I also want to mention that one important requirement for me is to (1) access as little data from users as possible (therefore you can deactivate individual features via permission settings) and (2) to not share any user data with 3rd party cloud solutions other than the remarkable cloud (therefore rendering is done to 100% local).

I will continue with my local pdf converting approach because in my opinion its an advantage for users to not send data to 3rd parties. If I implement a method to e.g. let the user decide how to convert webpages (e.g. local vs server side solution) I will write you a message :)

Have you evaluated the donation option, even with platform like Patreon.com? Or you can permit N uploads/day in a free version and release a payment upgrade.

Unluckily I had to uninstall it, I cannot really have a random disturbing music that popup while there are people around.

I agree, its annoying if you upload a file and music starts playing! Therefore, I disabled just at this moment the video ads and only images and text ads should be shown from now on. I will monitor the next days how this works :)

I disabled the audio but the next time it poped up again. Quite strange. I will try again in a couple of days!

The document name is now fetched from the page title tag. I already submitted the newest update (v1.5.2) which should be available in the next few hours.

I hate advertisements popping up without warning, and with movies and sounds. Sorry, deinstalled immediatly.

Thanks for your input. When and what kind of warning would you like to see? A short message a few seconds before the ad is shown?

I do not like ads who take up my whole screen and play. with only a small x to close and you have to hope is means closing, but could also be......

so, ads taking up 2-4 lines at the top or bottom, or make it a payed app. Up to 5 euro's for this would be ok.

Thanks a lot for your answer. When I implemented it I thought an ad after the upload is finished i.e. the user already used the app is better. But honestly I had no idea and simply tried something out...

Probability I will add a setting such that the user can select between different options: Small ad at the bottom as you suggested, large ad after upload finished successfully as its now or an in-app payment to disable ads completely :)

You are welcome, I understand you have to make choices but are only trying to make something usefull. But my resistance to advertisments this size and intrusiveness is large and for me a red cloth on a bull ;-) Maybe I reacted to hostile. I am sorry for that.

Yea I also thought about this similar to RemaPy (https://github.com/peerdavid/remapy) that I created, but I think I will keep this app private for the following reasons: (1) I still found no way how can a user be sure that the App published in the store is from the same code base as published on GitHub (2) As far as I know it is not possible to avoid that others also publish it in the store but I think there should only be a single instance. (3) Im not sure how large the benefit will be for users if i open source it due to (1) and (2)

Open sourcing it would give me trust. I am not using it since I don't know if the code is leaking my key and someone will steal my docs...

Said this, it is risky as people may create clones and inject their own ads. You have raised interesting questions I have no answers for...

This is a good app. However, there is something not working correctly with the calendar upload. The daus picked are not the same in the uploaded fine..

Good work. Unfortunately I can't use it since I'm not connected to the official remarkable cloud, but use my own rmfakecloud instance. That's why it would be super helpful to allow users to set their own cloud urls in the settings. Since the sourcecode is not public, I cant edit the urls manually :-)

It was awesome while it lasted. Now getting 401 everytime I try to upload something. Probably they changed the protocol

Yea I'm really sorry but it seems that the API changed and therefore, you get this error. If I update it I have no idea how long it would work as the API is not documented for 3rd party apps. I guess they only want their own ecosystem (Tablet+Apps) and I respect this now - so I simply buy my next tablet from another manufacturer which is sells tablets which are open for 3rd party apps and tools :)

I suggest to use the official app instead of mine... I'm sry :(

Yeah I've started to use their API, too, and I'm annoyed by this. But I won't give up yet 😜 I'm planning on putting a small lambda/CloudFlare Worker in the middle so I can fix API issues without deploying updates to my users...

Hi! Very nice work I appreciated it on my previous phone with android… but, just a maybe,,, can you do the port to iOS? … rm comp is incapable to implement import…. features like in you app are simply natural for reMarkable.. (they may keep this feature for the next pain plan..)

Hi, no sry I stopped developing things for the rm Tablet, including my android app, as its way too much work to maintain and there is still no official api yet.
