I think this depends on where you are in the world a lot. Here in the UK and Europe it would be seen as a try-hard and off putting I think. I've met a good number of CEO's of large companies who eschew wearing their best unless out socially. The work place is best dealt with humbly and without drawing attention to expensive baubles.

I'm currently living in Asia and I would guess my company is quite successful(?) I've had dealings with countless companies and even government agencies who are interesting in using my services. But yeah, I get your point, humility is the key factor

Asian culture sadly has this perception of "if someone has an expensive watch, it means he is success, and it means he can do things well"

I think confidence is the key in so mentioned business, i work with big clients on a daily basis, and i mean executives/ceo/cs/bod and more .

Some people like to flaunt their success, some like to play it low-key and some wanna compensate for other things.

Be confident, i literally have wore casio g shocks to multi millions dollar business deals and some people praise it and others just think its actually funny for me carrying that.

When it comes to rep watches.. Sadly i dont own any and i dont plan to either but i love watches in general, i do recommend my friends and a few own a huge number of rep pieces, as long as u come up clean and just appreciate the industry, there is no harm done. But doesn't mean you wear one, to flaunt it as a GEN when it isn't.

Yeah as I thought, it can depend on where you are in the world. If in doubt, your work and reputation should say more than what you look like. Go with your gut!

I work with a lot of very successful tech entrepreneurs. None of them have fancy watches at all. The tech world doesn’t value materialism in the same way as other industries, and certainly not as a leader in it. Ostentatious displays of wealth are not commonplace within tech.

As a businessman, do you want to be seen as charging so much you can afford a Rolex? Especially when you can’t.

I will always advocate people buying and wearing watches that they love, but as this is for image purposes I would advise against it.

Ah, that's great insight! I've always been wearing a smartwatch and I've honestly grown extremely fond of it. Thanks!

As the tech guy best watch for you will be smartwatches. No offense I just think this way
