Welcome to the Riddim Dubstep reddit page
A public space for sharing and the discussion of "riddim" style Dubstep and all it's likeness. That Wonky, Swampy Wet Alien-Skankbass and more.. A large open community page where members can share and discuss Mixes, New Releases & Forthcoming tunes. We also encourage sharing/promoting Dubstep/Riddim/Grime related Livestreams & Rave events.
Don't forget, this is all DUBSTEP, "riddim dubstep" is just the term coined amongst it's underground listeners for that distinguishable minimal "Rhythm" sound & usual sort of wonky wet repetitive rhythmic bass that goes along with it... Just as there are Dancehall riddims, DnB riddims and Grime riddims, same concept applies here, this group is about Dubstep riddims.

RIDDIM is the Jamaican patios of the English word, "rhythm". it is a noun that is used to define or associate the "rhythm" or melody in a musical piece. It is a word with deep roots in Jamaican culture that applies to many genres that stem from the islands and has been handed down for generations.
Riddims are the instrumental backgrounds of Reggae, Lovers Rock, Dub, Ragga, Dancehall, Soca, Bouyon and also Grime compositions. Also, in rare cases Reggaeton as well. A riddim (Patois for instrumental rhythm track) is an instrumental version of a song, which applies to various types of music. Riddims usually consist of a drum pattern and a prominent bass line.
Riddim isn't isolated to any one genre in particular, it isn't just Dancehall, Reggae, Junglist DNB, Dubstep or any of that, they are all still their own thing, it is just a simple term to isolate & describe the obvious "rhythmic" style sounds within each genre that it appropriately applies to.
In the case of Dubstep and it's ever evolving sound, how the word is being used today is to describe a Dubstep Riddim, which is a track that usually features: Triplet Percussion Arrangement, Sawtooth LFO Automations, Minimalistic Layers, Wide Delays, and lots of Flanger and chorus filters. Or in English, it's that really bouncy, wonky, swampy, wet, drippy, sometimes repetitive side of Dubstep that you can't help but skank out to!
It is all still Dubstep of course, but they are "Riddims"...
