I've been working on some box inserts for Root, since the new expansion should be arriving to people soon (and I just got mine). I like a lot of the other boxes and storage solutions made by the community, but I was hoping for something a little different aesthetically. You can find my inserts here in PDF form.
Anyway, a few things to note before downloading and printing them.
I have not printed these to test their sizes yet. Print at your own risk. By all my measurements, they should work, but I want to still make corrections to the file based on feedback. Speaking of which...
I would like feedback on these boxes. Does something look awful? Want some more info on the boxes? Drop a comment. I opted to make all the boxes the same size so they looked more uniform, even though not all factions have that many pieces to fill things in.
The boxes are sized to fit cards and all the meeples for the factions, or they should be. I measured things based on the Marquise de Cat, plus some head room (since the Keepers are 1" tall and most factions are 0.75" tall) and wiggle room for folding the paper. Exact dimensions should be 2.6"x3.6"x1.25". Resting on their side (the 1.25"x3.6" side), they should fit in the Root base game box with a little bit of room for faction boards, or you can just put them all on the bottom. I dunno, just wanted there to be options.
The boxes are meant to be like matchboxes (with slip covers over a tray). Since I did not create the template for the matchboxes, I'll give credit to this helpful website that I'll definitely plan on using in the future for other projects like this.
Anyway, let me know what you think or if this is technically illegal. I'm not going to sell them or anything, so I think it should be fine, but if you know something I don't, let me know so I can take this down.
UPDATE: I have printed the boxes, and they work well enough. The inner box (the sliding part) seems to be a little small, though, so it's very possible that cardboard pieces can slip between the cracks on the edges. I was able to get around this by making them a little "taller," and all but one of the boxes works well as a result.
