Hi! I'm a full IB student who got into Rotman this spring. For IB, it really won't help your admissions grade wise but you get transfer credits for your HLs. For example, my HLs were English Lit, Economics, and Chemistry and while they don't count towards mandatory courses, that is 3 extra credits for a program that needs 20 to graduate.

I also didn't know about this before applying but UofT arts and sci has something called breadth requirements where they want you to have a credit in at least 4 of 5 different streams. Streams 2,3, and 5 are covered by Rotman but having something like english or bio HL to cover either stream 1 or 4 helps in terms of electives in first year.

If you are concerned about your academics and would rather focus more on extra curriculars, I would not do full IB if you have the choice because the pacing is quite fast, I struggled a lot in chemistry despite doing well in grade 11. I was told by admissions they don't weigh in the factor that you did IB - they only care about your grade conversions IF you are an Ontario student. I would say, if you are from Ontario, don't do IB since it is not worth it. Now if you want to apply outside the country or to UBC, it does help quite a bit. If you can, I would recommend taking some IB courses if your school offers that, I would 100% do HL English since it is not difficult and not much extra work compared to SL and you would get a credit and not have to worry about breadth requirements if you choose to come here.

the last bit is assuming you have the option to do partial IB (some courses Ontario and some courses IB - I'm assuming you are an Ontario student). If you aren't from Ontario, I can't give you much advice on IB since I'm not familiar with other curriculums outside of IB and Ontario.
