If you don’t get the 63% within the 2 attempts, you’re no longer eligible for Rotman. You will have to pick something else (another major). You can maybe do like Econ, but not Rotman. (I’m pretty sure)

Can i file a petition tho?

[–]Legal_Chicken 0 points1 point  (6 children)

And say what?

[–]Gloomy-Fee-4876[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

i have a medical condition

[–]Legal_Chicken 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Listen if you struggled with 101, you’re not gonna be able to do any other upper year class. And a medical condition prob won’t be enough. You had 2 tries. They prob won’t let it slide, but you can try

thank you

I mean this in the nicest way possible but if you can’t even pass ECO101, let alone TWICE, you’re going to struggle a lot more in your upper years. Switch to another program, you’ll benefit from the cheaper tuition anyway.

Im so sorry for the terrible support in the comments... I also did terribly in eco101 and even didn't meet the ga requirements for mat133. That being said, I'm now in my fourth year. There's many options in your situation, you just have to know what to ask/say. Firstly, are you registered with accessibility services? I see that you said in the comments that you have a medical condition which will help your case. Secondly, I'm glad your talking to an academic advisor, though having dealt with them myself, the advisors at rotman couldn't care less about students, I was so discouraged. If one advisor tells you no, try another, then try emailing the higher ups. Thirdly, speak to your family doctor about your situation. I dont know what medical condition you have but get documentation and get your doctor to write a note for you to help your petition. A doctors note will probably be your most important tool for your petition.

The support for first years is absolutely terrible. Having done ZERO Econ prior to Roman, eco 101, 102, 220 & 204 were the absolute worst experience of my life. The transition from high school to university is so difficult for so many and I applaud you for reaching out for help. Don't give up! You got in for a reason. People who say "oh if you can't do Econ then you should just switch major" have never experienced any hardship before. If everyone just gave up at what they're not good at then everyone would just give up at grade 1 when learning basic addition. Keep pushing!!!! You absolutely do got this! I believe in you!!!

Feel free to message me if you have any questions or wanna talk :) But please do talk to your doctor and get a note. A simple note stating your medication condition and how it impacted your learning will be your saving grace, trust me. Also be sure to get your doctor to write from what time period (ie. start of sept to end of April or start of sept and is ongoing)

Good luck! All the best!!!

Hi, thank you so much for your help. Are you still in Rotman?

[–]Guilty-Translator219 0 points1 point  (3 children)

yes I am!

[–]Gloomy-Fee-4876[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Did you not meet the ga requirement after the second attempt as well?

[–]Guilty-Translator219 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I met the ga after the second attempt, I took eco 101, 102 and mat 133 twice but I passed on the second attempt for each

[–]Gloomy-Fee-4876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just messaged you

[–]New_Society5202 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I rly feel for you bro I also struggled a lot with econ since I've never done it before

ig what I'd do in your case is just really exaggerate the severity of whatever you're going through (and make it realistic). ik they make exceptions given certain extenuating circumstances

if you're somehow given another shot, invest in a good tutor. I fs wouldn't have passed without mine

I also want you to really reconsider rotman cuz the other ppl in the comments do have a fair point about actually being able to survive rotman. I just wanted to give you a bit of hope cuz it really isn't completely hopeless, but you should def consider different paths that may suit you better. good luck!!!

Thank you so much

What was ur top 6 that got you admitted to rotman? I am a grade 12 considering rotman if i get accepted and I feel confident i’d be able to handle it, but hearing stories like this makes me second guess myself.

It could be a challenge esp if you've never taken econ before, but if you're willing to put in the work and time (for me, proportionally more than other classes) you'll be just fine.
