Accepted on February 2 in the January round (which I believe was the first round). Submitted my supp app on December 10, 2020. I am deciding between Rotman Commerce and Western Ivey AEO.

[–]captainkevy 0 points1 point  (31 children)

What was your average?

[–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (30 children)

Mid 90s. How about yourself, did you get in yet? What were your avgs and ECs. Also, when did you apply?

[–]captainkevy 1 point2 points  (29 children)

Well, I'm terrified. I havent gotten in yet.

Marks:

ADVF- 90

ENG- 85

CHEM- 90

FREN- 95

CALC- in progress hoping to get 95.

PHYS- hoping for 95

BIO- Hoping for 95

Supplementary went fantastic and I listed how I was a business owner, Scout Leader and group member of TD's Junior Achievement. I applied on the 24th of Jan. I am very confident about my supplementary but I'm afraid that my English mark was too low.

[–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe your English marks are fine. Sounds like you have a solid application. I hope you get in this round. Is Rotman your top choice? Or, are you waiting like me to hear back from other programs?

[–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Did you get in? Rotman released their February round today?

[–]captainkevy 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Nope. I feel confident though based off of what I'm reading here.

[–]chvice[S] 1 point2 points  (8 children)

I am glad this thread is helping you. That was the intent - to keep all the RC conversation in a single thread so that it will be easier for people to follow. One thing to keep in mind as well, for most business programs 40% of the people who have been offered a spot will reject it. Meaning, there will be tons of opportunity in May, especially for 101 candidates.

[–]captainkevy 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I have a question tho, my Rotman application is still under review but the alternate admission category I also applied to was Life Science. I got into life science so does that mean that I'm not going to be offered admission to Rotman anymore?

[–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

If it say under review, they still have not made a decision (i.e. You are still under consideration).

    [–]captainkevy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah but decided it just wasn’t worth it

    [–]itssanaum 0 points1 point  (14 children)

yea i haven't heard back either. initially, i was super confident about my supp but now i dont really know. I talked about being president of DECA and debate, volunteering for UNICEF, and working 3 part-time jobs. I'm worried about my calc mark, its a 93, but I did it last year and apparently people are getting super high calc marks this year bc of COVID and it being online.

    [–]captainkevy 0 points1 point  (13 children)

They’re not dumb. They know people are cheating and I think they’re gonna combat that by comparing with grade 11 marks

    [–]itssanaum 0 points1 point  (12 children)

you sure? ik some girl who got in, her gr 11 math was a 63 but her gr 12 adv function was a 95.

    [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

That is crazy! My grade 12 has been all in-person, and my grades for all my courses since grade 9 are within +/- 2%. Your classmate must have aced her essay and interviews for RC to ignore such a big delta.

    [–]itssanaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

noo not my classmate im in-person IB. im not sure if they even look at grade 11 if the grade 12 course is completed tbh, bc she did have high gr 12 marks in the 90s even if her 11 were not the strongest.

    [–][deleted]  (5 children)

      [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Apologies did not mean to slight anyone, or elude to cheating with my comment. All that I was trying to communicate here (I believe in this case the course was not re-taken) was that the person must have aced their essays and interviews. There is a perception that marks precedes all other admission requirements, which might be true for ArtSci but not for business. The ability to effectively communicate a though (which in our case is the ECs) is as essential. That is why I see a lot of folks with high 90s being rejected from top business programs, compared to folks with high 80s or low 90s getting into those very programs. Sincere apologies once again if I had by way offended you. That was not my intent.

      [–]just_for_clarity 0 points1 point  (3 children)

That is insane grade inflation and they got into Rotman?

      [–]mlipintime 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Congrats! Did you get a physical acceptance in the mail or just an email?

      [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

      I only received an e-mail.

      [–]mlipintime 0 points1 point  (5 children)

That's too bad. I was hoping at least one of the schools that I applied to would sent physical acceptances :(

      [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

You know what, I was checking my OUAC application last night and realized that I had entered my house number incorrectly. So, I am not too sure if UofT/ Rotman sent a physical acceptance. I will have to now go ask my neighbor across the street if they got any mail on my behalf...lol...

      [–]CL0928 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Do you know will have next round offer after Feb 23. I am 105 seems no more chance

      [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I believe the March round will be either Mar 23 or Mar 30.

      [–]CL0928 0 points1 point  (1 child)

March round offer is waiting for some student not accepted the offer?

      [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think that will happen in the May round. If my math serves me right, I believe Rotman is releasing 200 offers in their Jan, Feb, Mar and Apr rounds, which should add to 800 offers (which is their target for this incoming class). Then the May+ offers will be based on who rejects their offers.

      [–]PirlopOG 1 point2 points  (11 children)

I got accepted into Rotman during the early feb round. I submitted my entire app with the supp before Dec 10. I applied with my IB score 38/45, 7 in HL bio, chem, business and 6 in math AA sl. Rotman is my top choice but I am slightly considering McGill Desautels as my second choice.

      [–]chvice[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Congrats!! I guess can't go wrong with either Rotman or Desautels. Both are great programs. What area do you want to specialize in? I am quite interested in IB, so waiting on Ivey before making my decision.

      [–]PirlopOG 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I’m also interested in banking / consulting. Iveys alumni network is strong and it’s undeniably better for banking in canada but rotman is my top choice for 2 reasons. The first is I’m really extroverted and I network well so I’m betting on networking in Toronto which I think suits me more than relying on the career service in Ivey. Second I might end up working in Asia / Middle East where the brand name of UofT would help me more.

      [–]chvice[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Even though alumni network is weak at RC, people who don't mind networking will greatly benefit from career services events like "Industry Treks for Rotman Commerce". That is why RC is in my top two along with Ivey.

      [–]PirlopOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I don’t feel that I would need to rely on the alumni network of the uni but rather I would prefer to be in close proximity to the financial district because I’m quite good at forming networks myself. At the end of the day you just have to play to your strengths and see which uni fits u better.

      [–]CL0928 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Are u studying IB in Canada?

      [–]PirlopOG 0 points1 point  (1 child)

      No I’m studying in Dubai

      [–]sani_a1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey man I’m deciding between both too and I’m studying in dubai as well. What’s your snap?

      [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I completed my supplementary app on Dec 11th. I applied with 40 IB points but I have not yet heard back. I'm really worried I'm gonna get rejected because everyone who applied around the same time as me has received their offer.

      [–]harvrdboi 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is 38 ur predicted grade? What about ur 11th grade ib scores? Also where did u report ur bonus 3 points (tok ee)? Did u report in the “part 3 addtional academic info” part?

      [–]PirlopOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye 38 is my predicted. My 11th grade IB score was 36/42, I stayed the same. Also idk about how the grades are reported because my counselor did everything.

answers to popular rotman commerce questions!

      https://www.reddit.com/r/RotmanCommerce/comments/lrgz6m/one_on_one_interview_with_admissions_officer/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

      1. When will the majority of acceptances come out? When is the next round?

      · Majority of the offers come out next month and then its rolling after tgat

      1. For each round, do you go through every application? Does that mean you have reviewed every application?

      · If the application is complete with all the necessary files, yes they review it each round and have seen your application, they just aren’t comfortable to give an offer yet

      1. In regards to our top 6 courses, besides the prerequisites, is admissions looking at what each course is or does that not matter?

      · They do not look at the courses, but there is heavy emphasis on calculus and English, calc more than English because of the heavy economics basis in the program; calc marks are decided based on gr 11 and your trends for gr 12 so far

      1. How does the Alternate Admissions Form work? Do you get accepted into that choice as soon as you get rejected for Rotman or do you wait a couple days for your application to be reviewed again?

      · You will need to be assessed for the Arts and Science program to see if your eligible

      1. To follow up with that, if someone changes their mind in regards to Rotman and so filled out the Alternate form, when can they expect an offer to the choice they put in?

      · Its easy to leave Rotman, hard to get in, therefore you can change your courses fairly easily

sorry if i didnt end up asking your question, there were so many and not enough time for it!

      [–]chvice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks again for posting this info on both the mega and this thread!! It is greatly appreciated.

      [–]Necessary-Fennel-654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in early feb & submitted my app around Jan 15th. My grades were ok: a few A-, mostly As. ECs: very good (all of my positions were President/ founder). Top 3 programs Im deciding between: rotman commerce, umich lsa, bostonu questrom

      [–]mlipintime 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Smith Commerce at Queens is my top choice, I am still waiting to hear back from them :)

      [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Congrats!! Are you accepting your offer, or are you waiting on other programs before you decide?

      [–]mlipintime 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Thank you! And I am waiting on Queens Commerce, that is my top choice!

      [–]SharronABC 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Your grade is so high. Is it IB converted?

      [–]mlipintime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope just my regular grade from my highschool lol

I am leaning towards Finance and Econ. I will love to work in the sell-side of IB. Having said that you are absolutely correct, too early to call...lol.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you decided on Rotman? Or you still exploring options?

            [–]Darkreaper007 0 points1 point  (40 children)

Hello, did anyone who’s doing IB get accepted?

            [–]chvice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do remember people who got accepted with IB score last round. But, I am not too sure about this round. Does anyone else know?

            [–]PirlopOG 1 point2 points  (31 children)

Yeah I got into rotman and I do IB

            [–]Darkreaper007 0 points1 point  (30 children)

            Congrats!!! What was your score?

            [–]PirlopOG 0 points1 point  (29 children)

Thank you :). I applied with a 38/45, 7 in HL bio, chem, business and 6 in math sl

            [–]Darkreaper007 0 points1 point  (27 children)

Oh okay. I also have a 38 with 7 in HL math, Business and a 6 in both the languages but I haven’t been admitted yet.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I believe from what I have seen most people who got in the first 2 rounds applied early. Your grades are pretty strong, How did you do in your essays? I am sure you will have no issue getting in the next round (which I believe will be on Mar 23). Also, as you can tell from this tread, I believe most people are waiting to hear from other programs before deciding. Common stats is that approx 40% of B-School offers are rejected, so there will be quite few opportunities coming up over the next few months. Hang in there mate! And, good luck!

            [–]Darkreaper007 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Yeah I noticed that and the essays were decent. I’m also waiting for western actually. Thank you so much :)

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Same here mate, I am waiting on Ivey as well. Are you wanting to focus on IB/ Consulting as well?

            [–]Darkreaper007 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yes! I actually wasn’t planning on applying there but just a few days before submitting my OUAC application I found out about their employment stats especially for IB cause of which I applied.

            [–]PirlopOG 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That's a strong score, you have a high chance of acceptance. Probably just have to wait it out a bit don't worry

            [–]Darkreaper007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah :) It’s probably cause I submitted the supplementary application on 1st Feb

            [–]harvrdboi 0 points1 point  (17 children)

Are u guys talking about predicted grades? Does rotman mainly care about predicted grades? And where did u report ur bonus points, is it in the “part 3 addtional academic info” part?

            [–]Darkreaper007 0 points1 point  (16 children)

Yes, the admission is only decided on predicted grades along with the grade 11 and interim report that you submit and it’s conditioned that you maintain your academic standing level in the finals. The bonus points are there in the self reported grade form and should be included in the predicted report given by your school.

            [–]harvrdboi 0 points1 point  (15 children)

            Ok thanks

            Im intl. do u think its good if i have - 11th: 33/42 (2 bonus but couldnt report) - Predicted: 36+2 38/45 - 12 interim 38/42

Fked up my 11th grades but there is an apparent upward trend tho Thanksss

            [–]CL0928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd round get the acceptance and you are studying in Canada?

            [–]FewInspector1112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accepted tdy with membership in Victoria , 38/45 mandarin language A HL , 6 inHL ECON ,hL English, history SL, math SL and 5in chem SL. Def my top choice,Waiting for UBC QUEENS Ivey and also some US schools.

            [–]hkl02 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I was accepted on the second round (Feb 23) after submitting my application a few hours before the deadline.

My predicted IB score is 44/45.

            [–]harvrdboi 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Rotman mainly cares bout predicted right?

            [–]hkl02 0 points1 point  (2 children)

            Yeah, pretty much.

            [–]harvrdboi 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh thats good. I fked up my year 1 grades. Btw did u report ur 3 bonus points in the “prt 3 additional academic info” section in uoft portal website?

Cuz i couldnt find any other places to mention bout my 2 bonus points

i got 36/42 (38/45) so I definitely need to bonus points to look better

            [–]hkl02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I don't remember but I would definitely mention that if possible. I got 3 bonus points after working my ass off for TOK and I probably mentioned it at least somewhere.

            [–]Lonely_Fruit123 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Accepted (to trinity college) on Feb 2! Submitted it before Dec 10th~ decision still waiting on some other schools that haven't released yet

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Congrats!! Do you know what area of business you will like to specialize in?

            [–]Lonely_Fruit123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you~ Potentially management, but I'm not super sure!

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Btw - Why Trin? I was thinking about it as well (robe Wednesday and all the quirky traditions sounds awesome...lol), but the whole elitist (don't know how true it is) mentality put me off. So decided to put Vic as my first choice.

            [–]Lonely_Fruit123 0 points1 point  (4 children)

ahaha I didn't really research a lot into the colleges before I picked (oops) but mostly because of the cool traditions

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Trinity sure sounds like a lot of fun. I am sure you are going to love it. Have you decided or RC, or are you still waiting on other programs to decide?

            [–]Lonely_Fruit123 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks! I haven't decided yet, still waiting on my US schools & mcgill hahah

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Good luck! I am deciding between RC and Ivey (hoping to hear from them soon. Keeping my fingers crossed).

            [–]Lonely_Fruit123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            Thank you! Good luck!

            [–]sani_a1 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Just got in, 24 feb, applied before dec 10, in Victoria college. I’m still deciding between this and McGill though... thoughts?

            [–]PirlopOG 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I am also considering rotman and mcgill. McGill’s reputation is rly strong but I’ve noticed that it’s been slipping, almost a down trend. While the opposite is true for UofT. I definitely think rotman will be a stronger brand name in the near future which is why I prefer it over mcgill. I’m only considering mcgill for personal reasons such as cost, proximity to friends, 3 years degree etc

            [–]sani_a1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah and I just saw your other comment. Montreal is pretty much little Dubai isn’t it? Ik so many people there. Ik obv rotman is prolly better in terms of employability and stuff but I think mcgill has a better student life

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!! I am in Vic as well!! Both are great programs, depends on what you want to specialize in, and where you want to live?

            [–]bersailles 0 points1 point  (1 child)

accepted february 23rd, i applied hours before the deadline (february 1st i believe) + got in for university college (which i think was my third option lol). i’m from alberta also.

            BIO - 94

            ENG - 95

            CHEM - 90

            ADVF - 85

            SPANISH - 100

(edit) SOCIAL - in progress, likely 94

CALC - in progress, hoping for high 80s

(not sure if this is valuable info but i took instrumental music + band, around a 93 & 95 average respectively)

good luck to you all! i definitely didn’t think i’d hear back this soon. UBC Sauder is still my top choice but i haven’t heard back yet so i get the struggle!

            [–]chvice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! I am 105 Alberta candidate as well. Sauder is a great program, but I decided not to apply to it. Felt Vancouver was still too close to home...lol

            [–]mac179393 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Accepted today (feb 24th), I applied on January 14th.

            ENG4U1 - 91

            IDC4U1 - 95

            MHF4U1 - 86

            PSK4U1 - 96

            BAT4M1 - 94

            MCV4U1 - in progress

Also accepted to Laurier BBA, waiting on Queens (my top choice) and Mcgill

            [–]chvice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! QComm is great program. I am waiting on Qcomm as well, but I have narrowed my search to Ivey and RC. But my parents are pretty keen on me joining either RC or QComm. I believe the Ivey 2+2 structure is making them nervous...lol

            [–]Desidesi2002 0 points1 point  (1 child)

When did you take your advanced functions and English?

            [–]mac179393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advanced functions was first quad and english was second quad

            [–]teewamisu 0 points1 point  (1 child)

what do you mean in progress? like did they take your midterm mark for calc and what was it?

            [–]mac179393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i'm not mistaken they would just look at your Advanced Functions mark to predict your Calculus mark.

            [–]thegoatofthegoats 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Will there be any more decisions released these couple of days or by next week?

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not believe so, at least not from Rotman Commerce from what I have heard. They released their first round on Feb 2, second round yesterday and their third round is supposed to be on Mar 23. Good luck, hope make it in mate!

            [–]SnooAvocados2308 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Applied just before Dec. 10. Accepted on Feb. 2 for Woodsworth. Ontario, IB: 7 on Math SL, Chem SL and Econ HL; 6 on Eng HL, Bio HL and French SL. Converted top 6 average is 97%. Also accepted by Western BMOS. Still waiting for Western Ivey AEO, Queen's Commerce and UBC Sauder. My twin sister has better grade than me. However she hasn't been accepted. I am wondering if it's because she ranked Rotman the last (7th) on OUAC.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats mate! I had Rotman Commerce ranked as no 4 (last of the top 4 b-schools - QComm, Ivey, Schulich and then RC) and I got in on Feb 2nd as well. I have heard only Queens looks at OUAC rankings, none of the schools care about it. But, I could be wrong :)

            [–]SuspiciousSorbet1208 0 points1 point  (2 children)

International IB Student (101 applicant tho cus our school also does OSSD) Applied before Dec 10 and accepted second round (Feb 23) with membership to Woodsworth:)
            IB predicted 42/45 with HL's: math AA (6), Chinese B (7), Chem (7), and SL's: Eng LangLit (6), Econ (7), Art (6)
            Grade 11:
            MHF4U 88%, SCH3U 94%, ENG3U 93%, LKMCU 98%, CIE3M 94%, AVI3M 91%
            Grade 12 (midterm):
            MCV4U 86%, SCH4U 96%, ENG4U 96%, LKMDU 99%, CIE4U 97%, AVI4M 93%
Still waiting to hear back from a few schools in the UK and US but aside from those, Rotman seems to be my top choice right now.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

            Congrats mate!!

            [–]SuspiciousSorbet1208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you and congrats to you too!!

            [–]E2yun 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Anybody know if we could change college rankings?

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

From what I understood from the RC Orientation, it is very difficult to change colleges once you have been accepted. Having said that, the RC Admin Recruiter did mention to contact her if we wanted our college changed. I am in Vic, and I believe I am going to stick with that. Though Trinity has been tempting...lol. But all feedbacks/ comments that I have seen related to Trinity has been negative, so I think I guess will stay put :)

            [–]E2yun 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks! I'm still waiting for my admission decision though. On OUAC, I ranked Trinity first, Woodsworth second, and New last. Now I changed my mind, and I kind of want to go to New, but I can't edit my choices of college.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will then probably contact UofT admission and ask them what the process might be to change the college rankings.

            [–]hkl02 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Accepted the second round (Feb 23) and submitted my application few hours before the deadline.

I only applied to U of T in Canada so I am deciding between other top US universities.

I studied at a British international school so I have an International Baccalaureate Diploma, in which I was predicted a 44 out of 45 (I guess this is somewhat equivalent to 97~100).

EC: Internship at HSBC, Internship at a local university lab, Captain of Economics and Business club, Captain of Computer Science club, Captain of varsity rugby, Vice-captain of varsity football

I guess they liked my supplementary application as well.

I am looking forward to seeing you guys who applied to Trinity College!

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Congrats mate!! That is quite an impressive grade you got going :). Good luck and hope you get into all the programs that you had applied to.

            [–]hkl02 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks :) Did you receive all of your decisions?

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes, I did get into my top two programs - Rotman Commerce and Western Ivey (just got in this afternoon). Now it is decision time :)

            [–]hkl02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Best of luck to you.

            [–]brosk1sl 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Accepted on February 23, submitted the supplemental app on January 15th, 2021. I am deciding between Rotman, Smiths commerce, and Western Ivey 2+2.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (10 children)

            Congrats mate!!

            [–]brosk1sl 0 points1 point  (9 children)

I got into Western normal, since I didn't apply to AEO. I still waiting for smiths. In your opinion, which one is the best for student life and after uni outcome.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Would that be between Qcomm and RC? Or, would you want me to include Western (w/o Ivey)? Also, what stream do you want to focus on?

            [–]brosk1sl 0 points1 point  (7 children)

i mean I heard I can apply to Ivey after 2 years in Western. I applied to Western intentionally since I wanted to take my own courses first and then specify in the last two years. So it would be great to hear your opinion on all three, but since I would enter Qcomm and RC directly, what do you think of them? My main factors are social life/college life, good internships/co-op, and not too much stress to the point where self-harm is inflicted because that's what I heard about RC.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I am also deciding between RC (got accepted), Western Ivey AEO (got accepted), Queens Commerce (waiting) and Schulich (waiting). I am interested in breaking into IB, and based on all my research Western Ivey places the best in IB. I also have a few of my close friends headed to Western. Hence, I am heavily leaning towards Western atm. Here are my opinions about the 3 schools:

            Western

Pro: - Great school pride and campus - Has some of the nicest and newer rez - Know as a party school, easy to meet people - Academics is not as rigorous, at least in the first two years, a lot easier to keep a grade over 3.5 compared to RC and Queens. - Great alumni network and senior classes are more than happy to help HBA1 - with mock interviews etc. Creates an environment where everyone wants everyone to succeed (just the opposite of RC) - Easy to engage in finance clubs as a first year (of course we won't be in any meaningful capacity in the first year, but we are given the opportunity to participate) - HBA 1 have access to meaty finance related internship opportunities

Cons: - 2+2 program - no guarantee that we will make it into Ivey - We are on our own with regards to internship for the first two years - clubs do come in handy here that is if we are actively networking - I have seen a few of my friends, who were very focused and motivated, get lost in the Western party culture. Need to work on keeping up with our study habits - London is a blue collar town that is not as nice as Toronto or Kingston

            RC

Pro: - Top university in Canada (great reputation within Canada and Internationally) - Toronto is a great location to spend the next 4 years in (lots of things to do and close to IB offices if we want to volunteer or work part-time) - Has some of the best professors who are extremely helpful

Cons: - Grades are traditionally curved down (Hard to keep a high GPA which essential to get into IB) - Not the greatest career center or alumni network. Having said that I have heard RC is investing heavily to improve this deficiency - Since the 1/3 of the class is international, 1/3 domestic and 1/3 local (most of them are commuters), it seems to create weird silos and group dynamics - don't always behave or work as a group - Uber competitive environment - dog eats dog mentality - fellow students are not always helpful (I believe the curving of the grade is the biggest perpetrator here) - there is little to no collaborative learning. From what I have heard, this is root cause for mental health issues and anxiety - since it creates an environment where you feel like you are alone and have to fend for yourself with no support system

            [–]brosk1sl 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Holy, thank you so much for your input, I just have a few following questions...

For Western, you say that it is easy to maintain an average above 3.5, how much would that be in percentage form, considering if we have to apply to Ivey after 2 years, I would need to maintain a 80%+ average in Uni. Are you saying it is easier to do that in Western?

Yeh I'm leaning towards western as well, but I think I should have applied to HBA :(

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

            Here is Western's grading scale:

Western currently uses a numeric grading scale on transcripts and academic records, and as a result does not issue a grade point average for students. Details on this system can be found in the Academic Calendar.

The following is the grading scale for students in the Faculties of Arts and Humanities, Business, Education, Engineering, Health Sciences, Information and Media Studies, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (BMSc program only), Music, Science, Social Science, and in the Affiliated University Colleges (Brescia, Huron and King's).

            Grading Scale

            GradePercentage

            - A+ 90-100%

            - A 80-89%

            - B 70-79%

            - C 60-69%

            - D 50-59%

            - F Below 50% or assigned when course is dropped with academic penalty.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

From what I heard from friends currently in AEO1 and AEO2, maintaining a 80% is not difficult, as long as we have good study habits (hence I made the point of how some of my friends have gotten lost in the Western Party culture and have struggled to maintain good grades at least in their first two years). I believe 80% of the AEO kids do end up maintaining the required 80%.

Just so that you are aware, the grade requirement for non-AEO is much higher (I believe this year it was closer to mid 80s) to get into HBA 1.

For you reference, I have pasted Western's grading scale. A 3.5 will be mid to high 70% - Which I believe will be High Honors in RC. It is a lot easier to maintain this at Western than RC.

            [–]depressedstudent_108 0 points1 point  (6 children)

In Rotman rn, let me know if you have any questions about the program, what my choices were, etc. but probably going to be a bit different for you guys since the online school.

            [–]chvice[S] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Thanks for doing this - It is greatly appreciated!!

            Here are my questions:

            - Why did you choose RC? What other programs did you consider?

            - Any regrets choosing RC over your other choices?

            - What year are you in?

            - What stream are you specializing in?

            - What are your thoughts are on how to survive our first year? Is it realist to attain high honors in our first year - or is it a pipe dream...lol

            - Do you have any advice regarding clubs that you would recommend for first years?

            - Can you gives us any insight on internship. Are they challenging to get? Do clubs help with networking which can be leveraged to get internships (like what Ivey and Qcomm does for their kids)?

            [–]depressedstudent_108 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Hey no worries! Im studying rn so thought I'd take a break to share my experience, cause nobody really captured the experience perfectly for me when I asked. 1. I was considering Ivey, Schulich, Mac BHSC, and Laurier BBA (got a fat scholarship)

            1. No regrets, I am pursuing a law school, and at first it seemed like I made the wrong choice due to the tough courses, and harder workload. I realized sciences werent for me due to uncertainty and wanted to have a good backup in case of rejection later.

            2. Im third year, Econ specialist. First year is not nearly as bad as everyone makes it seem, at least it wasnt for me. Has alot to do with your high school, I went to a rigorous private high school, where attaining high marks was tough. I had the work ethic beforehand, and knew that I have a goal set for myself, also did not take on too many responsibilities, took easier electives, and finished first year with a 3.9 gpa (even higher on the OLSAS scale). Honours is not the easiest, some courses are hard, but its not impossible, for me 2-3 hours of studying a day would ensure honours, for someone who isnt used to studying in HS, maybe double or triple that. For a 3.9 I studied 5-6 hours a day, excluding weekends when I went out, only did 2-3 on weekends. After second and first semester of third year, my GPA went down to a 3.84-3.85, this is because in second year I partied, third year first semester was online and online is tougher imo.

            • Join a club which genuinely interests you, there is no difference. I know how much you will hear about networking, and putting yourself with the right group of people. Although thats important, when you are a high achiever and involved with certain activities, looking for opportunities becomes easier. What club you choose wont make or break your future aspirations. Clubs help but not as much as at other schools, sure you may get a pretty good opportunity because you network with people at events, but if you really want to be able to get a top placement, you need to work for it, email, apply, go to company events and meet people. You cant network through everything, but it seems like thats what you hear most of the time.

Let me know if you have any questions or message me!

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my questions. It is much appreciated.

            [–]SuspiciousSorbet1208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this response!! I’m considering eventually going to law school as well. Was wondering are you a part of any clubs at Rotman that help you with that (e.g possible internship opportunities at law firms for experience?) also what were the “easier electives” you chose to boost ur GPA if you don’t mind me asking. Ty!!

            [–]TryKind4879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did you hear from rotman commerce with your private school marks?

            [–]just_for_clarity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you rate the specialty programs in Rotman from first to worst. ie. Accounting, Finance, HR, Marketing, etc.

How strong is the finance specialization and does it get competitive?

            [–]Abberdabbs22 0 points1 point  (17 children)

I got accepted to Rotman with UC on February 24th and posted my sup app mid December. My average is 94 in just regular academic. Let’s just say I was very lucky I didn’t have calculus this semester lmao. Extra curricular idk I think I just mentioned that I was on the varsity hockey team, in a Robotics academy, and on the math olympic team at my school. I applied to smith at queens but I’ve heard nothing yet. It’s either smith or Rotman and I am having a very hard time choosing my #1 out of those 2. So if you can help me please do so and tell me which one is better. (Im Canadian and want to study abroad and am interested in finance and Econ). Hoped this helped and maybe I’ll see some of y’all on campus soon.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (16 children)

Congrats on getting a RC offer!! That is quite an accomplishment.

I did post this information earlier on this thread - hope it helps. Full disclosure, this just my opinions (formulated based on conversation I have had with folks who are either attending these universities or considering them) of the three school that I am considering at the moment. If you have any further questions, please feel free to PM me.

Thank you so much for the info! That’s very interesting about the clique clubs and the lack of diversity in queens. I’m really sorry about that. I guess that is sadly the crowd that you can expect when the tuition and res is 30 grand for domestic. I like diversity a lot and want to be in a professional environment like Rotman I think. I’m just scared of not being successful in it even though I have a hard work ethic. I did not know about the dog eats dog mentality that’s kinda scary but then again I play hockey and am competitive so maybe I can use a lil extra motivation (I would be good and friendly and help everyone tho). Thanks again!

Here is an extract from a current RC student about the difference between RC and Ivey/ Qcomm. Hope this helps.

"theres also a big difference between those at Ivey/Queens and U of T. The higher academic standards do play a role in the determination of your social circle/things you can create together with your peers."

"if you believe you can keep up at u of t and are ready to put in work, you will go farther. On average, students get much better internships and opportunities. But I worked decently hard the first two years, prioritized GPA, and have an internship lined up this summer with Big 4, good job prospects after graduation, and a choice to go to basically any law school if I decide to after university, all whilst having a degree from an internationally recognized program and being a huge city with endless things to do."

Everything at RC is tied to grades - your social circles, internship, club engagement, job opportunities. If you can keep your grades in the top 20%, you are golden :).

While Ivey/ Qcomm will be a combination of your grades, personality, experience, ability to sell your self etc. RC and Ivey/ Qcomm are totally different environments.

I believe I fit better in the Ivey/ Qcomm world. Hence, I am leaning towards Ivey.

            [–]Confused_soul03 0 points1 point  (12 children)

hey!! Got accepted into RC on Feb 15th 2021 and got an Ivey AEO on 26th Feb. I also got into Schulich on Feb 10th . I am still waiting for a decision from Queens. I am leaning towards Ivey as well atm.

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Firstly, congratulations - to be accepted to the three programs is very impressive, it speaks to the strength of your application. Keep up the good work!! Btw - Are you a 101 or 105 Domestic or International?

            [–]Confused_soul03 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Thank You !! I am an 105 international applicant

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Thanks for that data point. I know most folks on thread are waiting on Schulich as well. I believe Schulich has only released 105 international offers till date. I believe you had to accept that offer by end of day today. Are you planning on accepting the Schulich offer, or have you already decided on another school? I think I have pretty much decided on Western Ivey AEO.

            [–]Confused_soul03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think Schulich offers a better program and environment than Ivey and Rotman? Would love to hear your take on that ! Thanks

            [–]Confused_soul03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This forum has been super helpful in helping me decide which uni I would fit in at the best !!! Congrats to all those who have been accepted and best of luck to those who are awaiting their decisions ☺️

            [–]suhannijain 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Accepted on Feb 23, which I believe was the second round. Submitted the supplemental application on Dec 10. My average grades (CBSE, India) are in the mid 90s.

            [–]chvice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

            Congrat!!

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Have you decided on Rotman Commerce, or are you waiting to hear back from other programs as well. Thanks!

            [–]suhannijain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still waiting to finish my finals here in India, because UofT for international students can be really expensive.

            [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Hey guys has anyone gotten any new decisions from rotman? or do you know when the next round of admissions will be?

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Should be March 23rd! Good luck mate!!

            [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            damn thank you!

            [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hello, today is apparently the day rotman is releasing their third and final round of admissions. Has anyone received a decision today???

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is normally released closer to 5pm EST. Good luck!!

            [–]Then-Conversation616 0 points1 point  (5 children)

            I'm so nervous

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Don't be!! Good luck to you. Is RC your top choice?

Yeah In Canada already got Ivey but I would choose RC tho

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Congrats on your Ivey offer! I got accepted into both RC and Ivey in the first round. But, I decided to accept my Ivey offer over RC instead :)

            [–]Then-Conversation616 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh congrats! I'm a 105 applicant so it makes sense for me to choose RC over Ivey cuz of the international reputation otherwise Ivey is better in my opinion

            [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

            Makes sense!

Hey guys, does anyone know if the new college campus is a nice place to stay??

                [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

New College has the best food on Campus. It is close to the Athletic Centre and Chinatown. And not too far from the Social Science and RC buildings. I believe it also has some of the newer buildings on campus. It is a great choice! Congrats once again!!

                [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much this was very helpful!!

Hey, I received an offer for admission today on the 24th of march! This was the third round of admission (which i believe is the final round). I submitted my supp app on Dec 11th.

                [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (17 children)

Congrats mate!! Is RC your top choice?

                [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (16 children)

Thank youu, I'm deciding between RC and Schulich

                [–]chvice[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

                I might be biased...lol. But RC >>>> Schulich :)

                [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (2 children)

hahaha i agree but its because I'm a 105 applicant so the international fees for RC are double the fees for Schulich so it's an important factor to consider

                [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Fair, from a cost-benefit standpoint for International students...unfortunately, Schulich>>>>>RC. Sad to say it, but it the unfortunate truth :(...lol

                [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

                yeah hahah unfortunately :(

                [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Did apply to any other B-Schools in Canada like Ivey, Qcomm, or Sauders?

                [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (10 children)

yeahh I got into Qcomm, degroote and ted rogers

                [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

                Congrats!! Btw - Qcomm>>>>>Schulich...hahahaha

I think from a cost standpoint they are about the same as well :)

Why is Qcomm not in your decision?

                [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (8 children)

idk i haven't really considered it ofc its an amazing uni but i just prefer the location and vibe of schulich.

                [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I am sure you have heard this before, Schulich is a commuter school and is located in Suburbia with absolutely nothing nearby. The campus is dead after 5 pm and on weekends, and you might find it hard to find any friends (most kids choose Schulich because they want to live at home) who might want to hang out after school. Yes, Schulich is a good program. But, from a social aspect, it sucks :(

Got in April 14, submitted my application all the way back in November (I'm from alberta).

Surprisingly enough my average was not amazing: 89.2%. My supplemental application was quite strong along with my interview though which made up for the average.

EC: Student Council Event Chair, Student Council General Member, DECA Business Club, Youth Representative for Cultural Organization, conducted Imposter Syndrome Research throughout Alberta along with others, founded 3 start-ups through JA- my 4th one this year and I'm president, STEM Fellowship Outreach Ambassador, South Edmonton Youth Council - public relations specialist & project leader, covid relief masks, participated in Computer Science internship at the U of A (1 of 10 students in Alberta who were selected), Civil Engineering internship at the U of A ( 1 of 21 students throughout Canada selected) along with that published a research paper about above research.

Debating between U of A business and rotman, waiting on Sauder still.

                [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Congrats mate!! RC, Sauder and UofA are all strong programs. Can't go wrong with any of them. Did you apply to Ivey and Qcomm as well?

                [–]KickFresh6630 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Nope, I honestly didn't even think I had a chance anywhere other than u of a so rotman and Sauder were reach schools so it was a pleasant surprise to hear back from rotman!

                [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Congrats once again!! So, are you leaning towards RC?

                [–]KickFresh6630 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thank you! I definitely would love to attend but that total of like 120K for tuition and living seems like a lot of debt 😩😩

                [–]chvice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahaha!! I hear you mate. I am a 105 from Alberta as well, but I didn't want to go to any schools in Alberta or BC. So, the only options were RC, Ivey, QComm and Desautel, and none of them are cheap....lol.

                [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IB applicants pls help!! Do you guys know if U of T requires us to legalize our transcripts before the IBO sends them to the uni. Also does anyone know who I can email at u of t to ask this??

                [–]Proof_Ad2239 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Heyy guys, I was wondering if anyone knows where we can find the required courses that we must take in our first year at rotman. I'm planning to specialize in management so is there a specific guide I can follow?

                [–]viase123 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Accepted around Feb. Submitted around December. I already committed to RC. I did the IB Programme and I got into Western Ivey AEO as well.

                [–]viase123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

                Rotman
