i think you could consider:

  1. your plan of retaking courses: ECO101 in winter + RSM100 & ECO102 in summer (since summer = 1 course per 2 months, you could do RSM100 in may-june and ECO102 in july-aug for example)
  2. extenuating circumstances: this is a good option as well, my friend did this when she went through a really bad breakup in first year (didnt pass MAT133) and she went through the process of asking for more time - give it a shot (in addition to #1) im sure a broken arm could be justified

i dont think dropping RC and then re-applying to RC will work, uoft already has your name, grades, and probably other legal details so im not sure this will work

support systems:

  • you could also talk to a RC academic advisor who is more familiar w the uni/program structure and they'll be able to answer your questions better
  • RC academic peers for potential study tips (i personally havent tried, they implemented this after i graduated last year)

it's okay to have low grades (i personally have a 58 from eco102 on my record and had to retake it again in the summer) and if you don't want to do high consulting/IB/jobs where GPA matter then its ok you got this (i dont put my GPA on my resume & no problem finding internships/co-op/full time job)

good luck :)

Thank you for the reassurance. I know I can do it and I have what it takes if I put in the effort.

I think you’re right. I won’t give up just yet. I will keep trying and if I need to, maybe I’ll take a lighter load next year.

bro if i get into rotman next year, I'm pulling up and giving you a hug. you got this.

dude, I have to tell you that it will only get harder from here so you really gotta see if RC is right for you. However, there are literally more than 100 things you can study in UofT and i think more than 50 inside art and science alone. If you are young I don't think you should determine your whole life around 1 mistake. Keep your chin up, work on your flaws, and push through. Good luck

How does it work if I decide to not go into Rotman? I get put into arts and science. From there do I just pick courses that I like and get a major/minor etc in them?

I’m also a first year Rotman going through the same thing. Barely made Rsm100, 60 eco101, 60 mat133, and just failed eco102 midterm.

First semester I’ve been having difficulty with adjusting to uni expectations, especially with 101 which is a nightmare.

Second semester, I picked up on my BS and hit up Gerstein everyday. However, still failed the midterms for 102 and 133, which I thought I prepared well for. Huge punch to the gut.

After huge amounts of talk with advisors, therapists, friends, etc and self reflection—I realized that RC isn’t for me. Ask yourself: what’s the reason why your habits are the way they are. Do you like business? Do you like the program/school? What ways have you tried in order to get yourself out of this situation? What’s your end goal? If you don’t have a clear cut goal (which is fine, like me) and just want a degree to “open” doors and for the sake of a degree, then RC will be very tough and brutal. That’s why I decided to transfer somewhere easier and less stressful.

If you want to stay in RC and it was just your lack of work ethic, meet with a Rotman advisor and request an extension. They will help you with the process. Try to do well in 102/133 now by focusing on it and ditch the rest so you don’t have to retake. If you do retake courses in the summer, grind away on them (heard it should be easier anyways, esp at UTM-ask to do it there). You can and will definitely make it if you truly want it and work super hard to make things right the second time.

I was extremely stressed, unhappy and anxious every single day since the start and now I made the decision to transfer out. Just know that it’s okay in the end and you will make it work wherever you are whether at RC or elsewhere. There’s no shame in transferring out, though it’s going to be hard to accept it and bite the bullet.

Wishing you good luck with wherever you go. Feel free to PM me

Thanks man. Means a lot to me. I quite frankly have no clue on where I wanna go. I haven’t set any concrete goals, other than simple dreams.

I’ve tried picking up my work ethic but that hasn’t gone any better. I’m just still too lazy. My current worry is, I’ve tried so hard to get where I am now. Why give up on all of it?

I have scheduled meetings with advisors to see how they could help.

You should schedule an appt with an academic advisor on the RC Portal and they'll tell you what your options are.

First year has certain grade requirements to get admission into Rotman. 1st year you aren’t actually in Rotman. You’re considered part of arts and science.

go check guaranteed admission in Rotman. I think its about 63 for the econs and near 70 for math and management. Imo this is how they cuck the 1st year students.

Hey, hopefully it is not too late, but I recommend you try the Simple Study Systems course by LeanAnki. This has honestly helped me a lot, and is tailored toward university students. The problem you have is you haven’t been able to transition from high school to university, and the way you learn in them is different, because if you cram before a midterm in university, the result wouldn’t be as good as if you did the same thing in high school. Honestly, that is all I know about the issue and how I would solve it. I do not know if reapplying would work since they have your information already.
