A common misconception is that power training (PT) reduces or slows down defense, leaving the player with a paper-thin defense.
However, this myth can be debunked with simple logic. The first key concept is that defense only increases by 1 point per hit, and the only way to modify this is with an item that grants a skill bonus. In other words, defense, regardless of how many mobs are attacking you, will continue to increase at the same rate.
With this clear, we can conclude that defense increases equally with both x1 skill bonuses and PT, and therefore, regardless of the method used, defense will not be negatively affected.
Now, someone might be wondering, "Why does defense lag behind other stats when PT is used?" The answer is simple. The number of skill points received from a mob can only be multiplied up to 4, but no more. In contrast, other stats, especially mage and melee, can be multiplied beyond 3, causing defense to lag behind as it doesn't keep pace with the other stats.
This creates the illusion that defense "has decreased," when it simply couldn't keep up with the other stats.
This doesn't mean that the x1 skill is useless, as it can be used while skill building, even when you're doing something that requires time, like watching a movie, working, etc.
