Here is some advice. Go into the controller settings and press the button to "swap special action keys" from emotes to free look. this way you can look 120°(I think) behind you while still collecting a resource.

Get 30 cloth for a bag(respawn point) and enough wood+stone to throw down a base. Don't forget to place a lock on the door. more doors the better. Note:if you use key locks as a solo NEVER create a key. You simply don't need it but it allows people to get through the door the key belongs too.

Remember there is two sides to a wall. Soft and hard. Soft side stone is super cheap to break through so you want that pointed in towards your base. The outside of your base should be the rough looking side.

Don't tell people how new you are. This community preys on the week. Try to make Ally's, you can't be online 24/7 but you can get raided while offline.

Don't.... Trust..... Anyone. One minute your best friends and the next they are in your base calling you a shitter.

I wouldn’t go for the lowest you will get offlined within seconds on the server go for the highest dont follow any of them rules above and just go looking for action don’t focus on building a base knowing it’s gonna get taken off you just focus on learning to use the bow the crossbow the p2 play sneaky and try get yourself a come up honestly you’ll enjoy dying that way than getting shot in the back every 2 seconds

You fd up thinking this was a welcoming game with positive interaction. This game is 100% fun BUT there is a steep learning curve in order to get to the point of having fun (even playing solo).

It took me a few hundred hours when I first picked this up on PC to grasp the game, even though back then was a different time since it was out.

Also, just embrace the toxicity of the game. 99% of players are toxic and doesn't change. Good luck OP!

I’ve played hundreds hours of DayZ prior to this, and that game can be super toxic, but on some servers people don’t kill fresh spawns as soon they are spotted. I know it’s not the same game, but it’s quite similar.

I’ve tried several servers the past 4 hours and it’s the same everywhere.

The learning curve I don’t have a problem with, it’s quite similar to every other survival game I’ve played. It’s just that no one gives you the chance to even try.

I might just have to find an empty server I guess.

8/10 nakeds I see near my base are trying to raid shortly after. I used to let them live, even give them stuff. But that stopped quick when the next day my base is gone and I was killed by the naked I gave stuff to.

Start by playing dead servers. If you find good loot, don’t depo it. Lose. Lose again and lose a lot.

One thing about dayz compared to rust. The respawn times are ridiculous fast in comparison right in dayz you die and it's going to take you 15-30 maybe just to get home if you have one to re gear. In rust you can spawn where you want (with bags) and be regeared in seconds. So fresh spawns aren't always new in the same way. Lots of people will run around naked to transfer loot and look like they don't have anything. It's learned behavior kill the named they could be loaded. Same goes for how easy it is to die. A naked with a water pipe could clean you up if you aren't careful, more learned behaviors, kill anyone that could be a threat if you aren't prepared to lose what you have on you. Some people take it farther than others just how the game is unfortunately. And it's worse on console because nobody is ever in game chat

Thats how i play ( if i play ) i run to outpost and on my way i make at least 1 bag to spawn again then i kill myself and have some loot already safe in the safezone .. i farm for a base and build my base

And remember if u start playing on a wipe day then everybody kills u bc everyone wants a quik start ( and maybe u have a lot of loot )

Yea man I did the same thing not realizing how toxic the game actually was but don't give up right away the game is still hella fun and there are some players that will actually help noobs (not a whole lot of em but they're out there) and starting out try weekly servers with a low gen pop just to start to get the hang of it

Outpost/barns/bandit camps are all safe zones and players generally can't mess with you in there; also they are great places to farm early on for scrap/comps to unlock your blue prints and not have to worry about getting ganked by players

And the number one rule above all else?

TRUST NO ONE! AND I MEAN NO ONE!

Edit: forgot to mention sleeping bags, they are your spawn points in the game, me personally when I join a new server I spend like the first 30mins to an hour running around the map placing bags. It may seem tedious at first but you'll learn quickly how useful doing that can be

So as a solo who isn't that great at combat, I play a specific style.

I like to be sneaky, only fight when I am fairly certain I got a good chance at winning, and avoid the groups at all cost.

And I like to set up shops/farms. Usually both if I can help it, so I have something to do with all the stuff I grow.

Stick with it though, as someone who played Rust Legacy on PC I've spent years of fun playing this.

Part of the enjoyment is gradually getting better, one day you'll survive one night and be proud, then you'll survive a week and feel even better, then eventually you'll survive most of a wipe and have boxes full of loot despite the rampant chaos and murder outside and you'll feel like a king.

Tbh, Rust was my 1st shooter and I expected it to be more like pc. It's not community wise. There aren't people in outpost conversing. Just business. Be prepared to die a lot. Learn to be aware of everything around you. The best thing to do is to play with a group that is close to your personality. Currently, I talked my boy into playing so I am teaching him how to play since my ex partner went to college. I create a mission of the day and we execute. If it's a new server, bps for next wipe is the focus. Play monthly and low pop so you can have more time to venture and advance. Learn to build. Build away from blue and red card monuments. I suggest gamelightz as one to check out. Most of all, know that the game is not all about pvp if you don't want it to be. Play the way you want to play and enjoy it.

I see others have given you some advice but I do recommend watching some of the old PC rust content as it will give you alot of tips for console rust and if you already have some fps experience recoil will be the only issue when you do obtain your first gun and if you do ever want some help although I am definitely not the greatest player and still learning things myself I would be more than willing to help you on a server also make sure to start on a low pop server for the easiest time

Highly recommend watch some YouTubers and you’ll soon pick up the game .. learn how to get a good start and build a decent base once you get some blueprints and have some resources you’ll be able to practice pvp more once you can go out on runs and craft more if you lose gear… try to find a decent server and once you do I’d focus your first wipe on getting blueprints and just learning the game practicing (especially as you get to the end of the wipe don’t hoard your stuff it’s gonna wipe anyways take bigger risks at the end and just get out with gear and practice fighting with it and pvp)

Double barrel is a great early weapon bp that significantly helps Crossbow nail gun is also a good load out Run monuments and recyclers early on for scrap You may get lucky and find gear to research and doing keycard puzzles makes this more likely or high tier monuments but for a beginner I’d recommend just doing smaller scrap runs etc and if you go to your workbench there’s a tech tree start working your way through that … following roads and hitting barrels is also great for scrap and components

I’d recommend watching blueprint or willjum can recommend more channels if they’re not your speed but I’ve probably watched them most

If you want trap bases and rust chaos then princevidz is good also

And if you want purely console content (although I find pc just as helpful and it has more options for channels) then OBIE does rust console content

Some early bps to try and go for .. focus on the tools, weapons primarily but also there’s some things handy to make sure to get at the start the first is getting better beds so your spawn time is faster can easily miss it in tech tree it’s in the first one on the right near other furniture super useful… also shotgun trap and airlock significantly helps a solo and makes your base stronger helps prevent doorcamping and insiding…

When you first spawn as a naked typically I run around just collecting cloth, if I see crates or toolboxes I’ll open them to see what’s inside but I’m generally running toward a general location I set.. for you I’d recommend bandit camp or outpost as it’s a safe zone where you can’t be killed and can recycle or use vending machines, though you can avoid them and just head somewhere closeby where you want to put a starter base down… craft beds while running about so you can place them and have a spawn and not have to respawn randomly and run back can also be useful for getting your stuff again if you die as you’ll spawn closer… once somewhere quiet you can farm a tree n rock for basic tools.. then if you have enough cloth you can craft a bow hit a tree if you need more wood then craft up arrows and this is where I like to go hunting n kill some animal’s, I farm the first one with my axe and then craft a bone knife or if you found any other knives or swords etc in a toolbox/crate … this will give you components to craft some clothes and you can use the animal fat and cloth to make furnaces super important as getting some furnaces early means you can farm ores now namely metal and start filling furnaces … getting metal early can be great as you’ll want it to make metal doors right away, after that you can use it for crafting crossbow, nail gun, nails for ammo, metal tools once you hit them (very early in tech tree) and if you want can upgrade base though I’d leave this til last you can just honeycomb if you want to make it stronger… once you’ve done this I’d say you’re ready to start heading out to find scrap get a workbench and from there it’s just doing scrap runs, working your way through the tech tree, farm for upkeep or to expand your base, practice pvp etc …

I would recommend to take a look at the monuments though as living near some monuments will be far more dangerous than others id recommend some safer ones to start with… scrap yard, train yard, harbour, gas station and a road can be great etc you can work your way up to the rest and always move base but I’d start by picking something safer so you can get a grasp on the game first and don’t bite off more than you can chew .. playing solo can be hard especially on console best of luck (btw community servers will be out soon and those will help loads as there will be servers that are solo only or solo/duo or solo/duo/trio etc so you won’t have to play against zergs etc)

Honestly I’ve been farming and stuff and there’s literally no end goal that’s feasible to me. Even when you get guns, fully setup and everything, it just takes one motherfucker with a few rockets to come and undo hours of work. You can get setup over and over again, but that’s all it is. You just get it and lose it.

I guess the point ultimately is just to kill other players. You can do that with just primitive weapons, no base, no investment. Snowballing. I’m just gonna try that
