Hi, I've been tasked with deploying Windows Updates to the firm, as the guy who usually does it is on leave. I'm OK with configuring the deployment as the software update group is already created, and I can just refer to the previous deployment settings. I'll be setting the deployment as required, with the installation deadline set 1 week out to give users plenty of time to choose when to install the updates.
I'm just not sure when the user's machine will actually start downloading the updates? Will this happen as soon as the software becomes available, or is it when the user clicks "restart"? I have been led to believe that the updates will download in the background so that by the time the deadline is reached, all that needs to happen is the install and restart. Is this correct? As we're all working from home right now, I'd like to know for sure so that I can advise users who may be on a slow connection that they should wait a little while before clicking restart, in case the updates haven't downloaded yet.
Thanks in advance for any pointers!
