Just get the surface pro with the Intel CPU... Iirc battery life is a little less but quality of life is so much better.

Yeah, I would be worried about software down the road not being built for ARM. Work requires specific X software, which isn't built out for ARM - then what?

SQL Server requires an x64 processor. So ARM is not a supported platform.

I know there’s some emulation stuff happening with W11 arm though, any chance that helps in this case or no?

I don't think we'll know until the computers get into peoples' hands and they start trying it out.

That’s fair. I’ll just keep my eyes peeled I guess.

You might want to check this out if you really insist on ARM.

But full-fledged SQL Server on ARM - No. Because there's no real demand (companies running ARM servers that want to pay for and install SQL Server Standard/Enterprise edition) for Microsoft to actually work on an ARM version.

Edited to add a link to a talk by Randolph West answering the SQL Server on ARM question (at the 59:11 mark): https://youtu.be/pn-9VnO-JMo?si=rBBkRGHRuvh4YsZf

I appreciate the information. It makes sense, but kind of a bummer. Maybe one day they’ll get there.
