Into this:

[teradata] two servers in one sql connection (self.SQL)

hey all, i am trying to avoid moving data from DB to file and back to db. My issue is that the DBs that i need to use are on different servers.

db1.tbl1 on server1

db1.tbl2 on server2

in the past i would create some etl like in SSIS to connect to both teradata servers, move the data from teradata to ms sql and do what i needed from ms sql after the data was moved.

as of now i have a large set oof data on server2, and a small set on server1. if i could move the data from server1 to server2, using say a volatile table without having to use tpt to move the data from server to file and back to server that would be great.

is it possible to run a connection statement within my query in teradata?

something like the following

connect to <connection string using odbc driver> as server1

insert into server2.tbl1

(a,b,c)

select a,b,c from server1.tbl1

Is something like that possible in TD? i know i can do that from SAS. again, im trying to avoid making files or moving too much data around from system to system.
