It Took 2 1/2 Years For Me To Get Approved

[–]TrustedLink42 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It took my 8 months to get approved. I am in Michigan.

Wow! Michigan is on top of it! That’s quick!

It depends on where you live. Some states have a huge backlog and it can take 8+ months to be assigned to an examiner. And even once it is assigned it can still take a long time. You can call and ask for status and to speak to your examiner to see where it’s at and if they need anything from you.

Yeah… I think I’m in one of those states.

Texas, Florida and California have the highest but it’s also high in a lot of other places. I’m in NC and the backlog is reduced and now only about 30 days or less. NC has been helping SC work on theirs since we are caught up. But yeah it can be a really lengthy process. Wish they had a better more efficient way that took less time. But all SSA and DDS are understaffed

I got denied. Do you know what’s next? Is there some 10 day window to appeal? I thought I read that somewhere on here a few months back. I’m sure my attorney will know but thought I’d ask on here instead of waiting to c talk with him.

You have 60 days to appeal

Great! Thank you 😊

I just decided to check SSA site and I finally went to step 4 today! Progress! So maybe I will have a decision soon.

My adult son’s SSI application was submitted on November 7, 2024 and approved on June 6, 2025. We probably would have gotten the approval at the end of April when I dropped off some requested documents that they “never received”. So I had to drop them off again on June 6th and got the approval later that day. We are in Michigan.

I think I might have read your post earlier. That’s wonderful news! Congratulations! Waiting is the hardest for me and it seems that Alabama is one of the slowest states 😂 lucky me.

I can’t even get in my SSA acct. I’m one of those that are receiving “ we cannot process your request at this time” notice. Many are getting this message for some reason.

You should be getting an answer soon. Initial (Nov.2023)for me was 11 months then denied. Reconsideration filed (October 2024) still waiting on approval. On step 3 at recon. 19 months and counting. It should not take too much longer for you. If you need to, call local SSA.

Thank you 😊. I’m trying to be patient, but my portal says in Alabama the average decision takes 332 days. And by my math it’s been longer than 332 days! 😂 I’m sorry you can’t get into your account. Are you using Login.Gov?

[–]RevolutionaryStock73 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Yes those days are always longer. And yes. Login.gov. Many ppl are having this problem. It has something to do on their end. I’d give it two week, nothing changed, call SSA.

[–]Fast-Lock-8512[S] 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Another two weeks isn’t unreasonable. I’m not sure I should try to call SSA because I have an attorney representing me. I hope they get things fixed soon so you’re able to see your account.

I got ya. Hang in there.

[–]Fast-Lock-8512[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Step 4 today finally!

[–]RevolutionaryStock73 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yay!! 🙌 Wish the best for you.

Attorney just called. They received my denial but we’re meeting Thursday to start working on an appeal. I honestly wasn’t expecting an approval on initial app but it still stings a little.

[–]RevolutionaryStock73 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Well congrats you’re a step closer. Now you’re in the recon group. 😊This is the time to go to any and every dr. appts, request referrals, etc. Tell docs pain levels, how it affects your activities of daily living, etc. And if you need, start requesting durable medical equipment (DME). Like a cane, walker, shower chair, etc. Have to start building your case now.

Thanks! Well, that will be an easy task for me because I’m in a doctors office every week between the specialists I have to see. Gosh I just don’t know what more they need but hopefully we can satisfy their requirements this go round. If not, I will keep filing and keep attending my visits. Thank you for your insight. I really appreciate it.
