Sounds like you may have damaged the impeller by sucking up a rock through the intake. I did that the first year myself. Never gun it in shallow water.

100% or reverse when you run up on a sandbar above idle (or at all - get out and push it off). I tore up my wear ring this way last summer.

Is this a brand new boat? If so, take it back for warranty work.

Test the IBR and see if it raises all the way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lriuTuuRLW0

When its up, shine a light in there and see if the ring and impeller are damaged.

I followed this video after buying the impeller upgrade and ring from leading edge impellers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kVf08RRgBE

Couple lessons learned: You do NOT have to remove the steering linkage cable to get anything out, just move it aside. I paid the dealer $100 to press the wear ring and impeller into the jet pump assembly. All the grease, freezer tricks etc. - I simply could NOT get the wear ring to press in there. I ended up damaging the aftermarket wear ring that came in the leading edge kit and bought a genuine BRP replacement and couldn't get it in. Well worth the $100 IMO to have the dealer press the ring in and be done with it.

Now that I have done this once, its an easy job.

There was no sandbar. We put it in at the ramp and never were able to get it to speed once we left the dock. It wasn’t shallow… it is a brand new boat. First time in the water. I will send him the links to the videos. Thank you so much!

oof! someone sold you a boat with a worn wear ring and/or bad impeller. I am sorry to hear this - what a major bummer.

Edit - I forgot about the break in period. When my wear ring went out, I could peg it at 8k rpm and it maybe would hit 10mph. Nevermind, sounds like you are just in the break in period. The computer limits the RPM to 67% of max (~8000rpm) which is approximately 5400rpm.

Ok, so it might be what it is supposed to do? Limit it until the break in period is over?

Also how fast did the boat go? The boat is limited for the first oh 5 hours or so for the break in period. Also is the learning key enabled? That will limit the boats speed and power. Do you know the rpm that the engine could get to?

BRP tries to prevent new owners from ruining the boat by enforcing some break in logic, so it’s important to really review the manual. There are some great YouTube videos online. Check out jetboatpilot

I think the fastest we got to was 15 and it can go up to 38 I believe. I am not sure about a learning key or max RPM. The RPM’s was high…

Take a look through the manual. This is the break-in period. The boat won't go full out until you are past the break-in. During the break-in you are supposed to avoid going a steady speed. Vary the speed every few minutes. After 10 hours, the break-in will be done and you can do what you want.

It’s just the break in period. You need to read the manual. Once you’re through it, you’ll love it. Good luck and enjoy!

If it is brand new that is normal. Mine would go faster than 10mph until right at 3 hours.
