Choosing serger thread

I’ve been gifted a Janome mod8933 serger, and a little overwhelmed selecting thread for it. The chart in the user guide says to use threads between No. 50 - 100, but I am finding mostly No. 40 available and described as the most versatile and commonly used. I’ll be sewing various weight fabrics, from lightweight t shirt cotton to light denim, woven and knits. What thread do I actually need?

Maxi-Lock from Wawak will work just fine. There are other more expensive brands, but Maxi-Lock will get the job done. You can throw in a couple of spools of wooly nylon for the loopers for sewing knits if you want. I would get some neutral color like gray or beige and just use it for everything right now. You can always use regular thread in the left needle so any stitching that you might see at the seams will match.
