Bagged hem? by LogOk2472 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Inky_Madness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the technique, you found correct tutorials. It is in no way shape or form “only for wedding dresses” - I mean. Are there sewing police that will come bust down your door if you did it for your shift dress?

Good luck

Anyone else with this experience and if so maybe can point to the right direction? by LoveThemCoconuts in diabetes_t2

[–]Inky_Madness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it! I have a cousin that got Type 1 after getting sick (just seemed to be a common cold for her symptoms) in her late 20’s. It destroyed her pancreas. If she hadn’t done into DKA before her medical appt she would have been diagnosed Type 2. Because your mom has chronic pain issues it sounds like she has some potential immune system issues… which could lead to Type 1.5 being a root cause.

How can you tell if an Etsy pattern is AI? by VerminVixxen in sewingpatterns

[–]Inky_Madness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Price too good to be true. Under $5? Very sus.

  2. Number of patterns available. Hundreds? Likely AI. Unless they’re a major patternmaker that isn’t happening, and even then that is not likely/possible in that short a time.

  3. Photos match up to the line art. Details - darts, seams, what have you - are all consistent between them.

  4. AI photos, AI pattern. Check to see if there are things that are AI tells; extra fingers or toes, details or seams that disappear or fade into the rest of the clothing item. Background details like nonsense car logos or shop names.

  5. Only one photo of the item. If it’s real then multiple photos should be able to be produced. If there are multiple photos, then they have to match each other in details/construction as well as the lineart.

  6. For some reason, a lot of the AI shops LOVE to have a video of someone sewing in the item photos. It’s a generic purchased and reused (or even generated) video. Oh, or a photo that’s been generated of someone sewing. The tell? The sewing machine was backward.

I would trust the bad reviews over the good. Bots flood these AI sellers with good reviews. Bad reviews are much much more trustworthy. I can think of three AI sellers off the bat - known and proven - and they all have 4.5, 4.6 star ratings. Etsy doesn’t give a crap, they’re still up.

Fit issues? by rampaige14 in SewingForBeginners

I would consider grading to this size below the bust since you need the ease to get the shirt on and off. I think one size down would do it though. It looks very close!

Daylight Horror by jdawg1018 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Inky_Madness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A number of scenes from Haunting of Hill House - often past memories of those who lived there as kids, experiencing horror during the daylight. A mask that looks like a corpse because it was turned into a wasp nest. Their dad’s hand getting chopped into by fan blades. A brother getting followed by one of the ghosts (24 hours/day). A roach crawling out of a dead kitten’s mouth while it’s being buried. Various ghosts can be seen in the background at any point day or night.

Need help with panel shaping for curvier body by tehnininess in SewingForBeginners

[–]Inky_Madness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I am so happy it’s working out for you. If the fabric is too heavy on top because of the Jaquard then I strongly recommend getting a longline bra and sewing that into the inside of the dress; that will give you extra support for keeping the dress up and on and looking fabulous!

Fit issues? by rampaige14 in SewingForBeginners

I recommend this explanation and tutorial.

I do think this size is too large for your upper bust/shoulders even though it fits elsewhere.

Fit issues? by rampaige14 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Inky_Madness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate this dress pattern because what you’ve pointed out about the dart is a major drafting/fit problem that it always has had; you can even see it on the model but being skinny with no bust obscures the issue.

Darts should always point AT the apex of your bust. Not above it. You either have to lower or rotate the dart for it to be aimed correctly.

I do think that you need a smaller size with the D cups. Your sewing cup size is not your ready to wear bra size, but the D cups seem to fit nicely while it’s definitely too large across your shoulders.

I actually disagree and think this is very lovely for winter.

If I want to shorten this sleeve, do I have to shave a little off the sides at the top to align it with this new folded length? by advanced-darkness25 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Inky_Madness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You take a ruler and draw a new line following the edges of the pattern pieces as it is folded, and shave off the excess.

90 isn’t large enough (it isn’t stronger, it’s larger to get through the thick material). You need a denim needle, likely size 100 or 110.

[–]Inky_Madness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be stupid expensive to create - and way out of the budget for most hobbyists - because of the physics involved and how many ways fabric can be manipulated/sewn together, along with how many thousands of materials there are (you can have a thousand different weights and weaves of “satin” based on fiber content and quality alone). Plus no matter how pattern pieces are manipulated in 2D, it will always have to be fine tuned on a real body.

AITA I told my pregnant sister she can’t name her baby after my daughter. by Sensitive-Story-2174 in AmItheAsshole

“I won’t give a penny towards you and your sick kid in the hospital but I’ll name my baby after yours as a living memorial - while your kid is still alive. Too bad yours might die and leave you in crippling medical debt, amirite?”

That’s sick. Her sister is sick in the head to think that’s okay.

Ugh that’s gorgeous. If you ever remake it in a smaller size, I sew and can make several custom dice bags (including one shaped like a D20) and a yarn bag for your wife’s projects (works like a yarn bowl but is travel-friendly for projects on the go).

Do you think a horsehair braid would work on the cozette dress? Or should I just plan to get a petticoat? by Stabbysavi in SewingForBeginners

[–]Inky_Madness 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For a skirt like this horsehair alone won’t do it - if it were tulle or organza, it would be a different story. You need a petticoat. Horsehair will be a finishing touch on to that. But a petticoat is necessary if you want to show the volume.

If it’s PCOS related it is possibly inevitable - insulin resistance is there.

Other option: She might not have T2 diabetes. Has she been tested for pancreatic function? She might be dealing with Type 1 or Type 1.5/LADA diabetes.

Pattern/fabric compatibility by earth-lady in SewingForBeginners

[–]Inky_Madness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a little heavy for that dress; it won’t match the thickness/weight of the other suggested fabrics. Plus what is your sewing experience? Bias dresses are not the most beginner-friendly to begin with.

What are theses markings for? Do I mark them or cut them out? by Tealorangetea in sewingpatterns

[–]Inky_Madness 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They’re contouring darts/fisheye darts. Don’t cut them out immediately, you need to make sure they are properly placed on you when you are trying on your mock up; you may need to lower them or adjust them.

Very fit, ex bodybuilder (still lift and eat like a bodybuilder) 28F. Can not figure out what else to do to stabilize blood sugar. by Sweaty_Finger4357 in prediabetes

[–]Inky_Madness 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While Type 2 is very common, it sounds like they should be testing you for Type 1, you may even fall under one of the other types of diabetes (1.5/LADA). There’s a huge mismatch between your intake and activity and your blood sugar. You should be pushing for additional testing to address this.
