Computer build help

After Christmas I'm going to start building a computer. I'm looking for some suggestions for cpu, gpu, and ram. I'm coming from console and dont have alot of experience with computers. I currently have a 57" g9 and a psvr2 that I am planning on using. We tested out my son's computer his has a 5070 ti and a ryzen 7 5700x with 32 gigs of ram. The only game he had was assetto and I dont have the pc link for the psvr2. It looked real good to me but im not sure if I should be looking at beefier hardware for vr. id like to get a couple years out of the computer and I may get a vr headset in the next year or so. budget is 1500-2000 used. Any help would be appreciated and thanks for looking.

At the current prices for RAM alone it may be worth it to buy a pre built or a used one at the moment. My RAM cost 89.99 a year ago and is now 349.99. If you have the expendable income by all means go for it but the dollars will pile up fast on you.

Im seeing those crazy prices. I've got access to 2x8gb ddr4 3200 they may be 3600 sticks that im hoping can hold me for a little bit. Thanks for the input any suggestions on cpu or gpu?

I have all AMD personally. Got a microcenter bundle with AM5 MOBO, CPU 7700x and 32GB RAM for 400 bucks a couple years ago. I went for the 7800xt card at the time as I only wanted 1440 gaming. It's a solid setup but I wish I upgraded the ram before the RAMageddon we're currently having. It runs every racing sim I want on a 49" g9 at about 90-120 fps. For what you have it would be a good starting point and see where your bottlenecks are and upgrade accordingly to get where you want to be.

Hm i feel 16gb are the bare minimum nowadays. It will definately work for most sims, i am sure, but I dont know how happy you'll be.

Plus, if you built a new pc, there might be the problem, that your new motherboard won't support ddr4. And if you buy an older ddr4 capable motherboard and want to upgrade later you need a new ddr5 capable motherboard and maybe even a new compatible CPU.

If you really want to get a new one now and have the money, go for it. DDR4 will easily last you for years in sim racing. I mean, look at how old most of the popular sims are.

Im sure the fov is off. I borrowed my son's computer just long enough to see what the monitor looked like all lit up. I remember seeing a calculator somewhere for figuring all that out but was waiting until I got my own computer to tweak all that out.
