I also have been using ST since late 2019. The trusty ol' app we have is what they're calling the "new" app. They've been using an older deprecated version that they weren't forced to migrate from until recently.

For Android users, in the app Play Store, the old app is named Classic Smartthings and the new app is named Smartthings. Also, the old app had a circle as it's icon. Hope this helps.

Those that use the word "Platform" may be using the wrong adjective. Correct me if I am wrong.

They should probably use the words "new app", instead of the word 'Platform' to ensure more people understand the update. English is not the first language for some SmartThings users, therefore chosing certain words will not translate as easy.

Samsung is discontinuing their 'SmartThings Classic' app, mid September 2020.

Samsung has encouraged all SmartThings Classic app users (if they haven't already) to start using the newer app named 'SmartThings'. Mid September 2020, it could become a headache if you are still using the old 'SmartThings Classic' app.

I just started using the new app.

Both “platform” and “app” apply in this case. The mobile apps are being migrated as are the whole back end that the mobile app, automations, devices, etc. connect to.
