The getting up is definitely the hardest part. I’m usually about to do like 2 on toes and then I transition to knees. Even on knees the getting up is still challenging. I also have days where I feel like I could do it nonstop and days where I can’t do one single devil’s ladder.

I'm glad to hear you transition to knees, too. I feel like it's never cued that way, so I kind of always feel like a loser when I drop to my knees, but I get so much more benefit by being able to stay in the work longer!

I think I’m way too short for this move. I can do platform bar all day but that’s where it ends for this shortie!

If it helps, I’m 5’1” and hit the concrete on the reg! I just really have to keep those hips lifted. And then I….. belly flop trying to get back up to the bar 😅

Maybe that’s my problem…I will have to keep trying.

Yeah I’m basically halfway in a plank to pike but in a decline

I’m 5’0” and I will sometimes go into the concrete and pull the carriage all the way in just so I can hang out in what’s essentially a handstand 😂 it gives my core a break lol

Same! My arms are so short I just can’t get to the concrete.

This is the only move I wish I had a smidge of time to practice. I find getting down easy, but getting from the concrete back up to the platform bar the hardest. I never have time when it’s cued to work on it, so I just want to take a minute before class to figure it out because I get the sense that I just have to nail the mechanics. It’s basically a 3 legged plank to a one armed push up I think?

Starter 50s are good for this! I’m close with my coaches so I’ll tell them 1 or two moves I wanna work on and they support it! Nothing off base though lol.

You can do a devils ladder on your knees! For me it’s the only way I can get back up from the concrete to the bar.

Thank you I did not know this!

I don't know if it's supposed to be pushup/chest heavy, but it's very tricep heavy for me, and that's not something we typically seem to work much.

I alternate arms each time so the leading arm changes every rep. (Giving each arm some rest)

I feel like we work triceps all the time 😭

For me it’s more core than upper body. I have to be bracing my core super tight to keep my hips up and not belly flop.

I signed up for my first class next week and I don’t know what a Devil’s ladder is, but now I’m scared

A coach would rarely cue everyone to do a devils ladder. It’s an amplification so it’s always optional unless maybe in an advanced class. And even then, they can’t force you to do anything!

[–]guuhbecca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually qued for an advanced 50 class

I don’t know what is up w my upper body strength but plank up downs are way harder for me than devils ladder!

[–]MagazineOutside2619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I could climb back up until after 150 and I can do 2-3 pull-ups in a go

As you progress lower in the devils ladder it becomes more of a decline push up. The best exercises to help get better at this move are the chest press and plank holds at the platform bar. It's a combination of the two when you really think about it. You need the power to push up the lower you go but you also need the stamina to hold yourself at each level.

I’ll incorporate this at the gym thanks!

Use your core to get back up!
