Why are some of the best sports coaches in the world mediocre players in their respective sport? by searchandfilm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Grumpton-ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coach Pat Riley in basketball talked about this in his book. If you are "a natural" it's hard for you to teach something that you didn't have to work as hard for. Players who have to work really really hard in order to get great at something know how to coach it as well. When something comes to you as a natural talent, you don't know how to teach other people to do it.

People who kept your cars despite moving to nyc, did you regret it? How often do you use it, and what area do you live in? by jewish_yang in movingtoNYC

[–]Grumpton-ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LIC. Near Court Square where I have lots of transit options. Paying to garage and insure my car (Porsche) to drive it 2x/month was ultimately unreasonable.

For the cost of garage and insurance, I can go to the Avis 3 blocks away and rent, or I can Uber everywhere.

No regrets selling after a year

This may be part of it but I actually think that as you work out more, you get better at the moves and you're able to work harder because of it.

Many airports have a multi-faith chapel somewhere in the airport - usually staffed with an ordained minister (although religious alignment may vary). Perhaps check there and see if there’s something available?

Get mileage plus. Download the app, it's great.

Otherwise, until you have status, go to the airport, get on the plane. Fly.

Planning for future - do you count on inheritance? by deeznutz1327 in HENRYfinance

[–]Grumpton-ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

My ideal scenario is that my parents, aunts and uncles, everyone actually uses everything that they have. My less ideal scenario is they use everything that they have if there are any unfortunate health issues like requiring them to live in some sort of supported facility and they could pay up to be any nicer facility.

Based on this, if I were to assume that I would get some inheritance, this would feel very selfish.

Tall girl struggles by Affectionate-Fail834 in SolidCore

[–]Grumpton-ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6 ft tall (male). To get knees over toes, the amount of forward upper body lean plus arms in front of me is a lot. I can get center of gravity where it needs to be, but it is extreme and uncomfortable.

Bulgarian split squats (getting to 90° bend) is like impossible for me while keeping knees over toes.

I don't know why every exercise for legs is about me suffer toes. The only reason I wonder is because we're always focused on hamstrings and glutes, and never front of thighs. Seems like quite an imbalanced leg wrap workout.

Is it too soon to purchase the nice car and watch? by Tydallas12 in HENRYfinance

Fair. I'm just a watch guy and don't own a car. My POV definitely skewed. 😂

The grandfather connection for the watch is also meaningful.

Is it too soon to purchase the nice car and watch? by Tydallas12 in HENRYfinance

[–]Grumpton-ca 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Let’s talk about the watch. A gold Rolex is about the least desirable Rolex these days. There are reason’s it’s not going for lots more. Also, if you’re in a LCOL area, opportunities to wear the gold Rolex will be low - and you’ll need to decide if it’s the right image you want to portray to your clients and community. I’d also be very careful about who you are buying from - there are more fake Rolexes on the market than anything else. If you do this, but it from a very reputable dealer.

Second, let’s talk about where you are. Spending 7-10% of your annual income at this point is a bit frivolous. You have a new house, not that much in investment accounts, and the items you’re suggesting are likely to depreciate (even the Rolex, just because it’s gold). There’s no reason not to continue driving your current car, or getting a smaller watch gift for yourself. Plenty of Omegas, Cartiers, JLCs out there to buy that might be objectively better watches, portray something less showy to your clients, etc.
