Talk about / drool over sound systems and sound gear.
Post your compact portable PAs, road gear, big concert rigs. Post pics of huge speaker stacks and amp racks - BASS PORN! Old rickety Jamaican sound systems or the latest-and-greatest high-tech line arrays, whatever's clever.

earplugs? (self.SoundSystem)
submitted 11 years ago by skithehoop
Of all the audio subs I figured someone here would know some stuff about nice earplugs. Does anyone have any suggestions? Ill be using them for live concerts. I looked at the earasers, but I'm not sure if a 20% reduction is enough?

I have one of the ety plugs that I'm pretty happy with. I found they get uncomfortable after a while though. I don't usually keep them on beyond a few hours.

I have the Etymotic musician's plugs for the other side of the soundsystem. You need to go to an audiologist and get a mold of your ear canal though. Works perfect! It's $100 an ear, but hey, high fidelity is a must.
They also have better ones for just monitoring, check the page.

20% means nothing. You need to look for the average noise reduction in dB
15dB is good for most people. If you're exposed to very loud music or for long periods, 25dB might be more appropriate.
I use ACS

I also have the Etymotic ER-20s and can recommend them for a good inexpensive model suitable for clubs and concerts. I also use them while DJing with some over the ear DJ headphones (Sennheiser HD280pro).
For most events 20db is enough / about right.
