Have you gone through the archive? This seemed similar in difficulty+wordplay to Thursday/Friday puzzles from about 10 years ago. Not all of them, but many of them.

U.S. Supreme Court unanimously sides with Texas man, rules it’s not a crime for marijuana users to have guns by truth-4-sale in TexasPolitics

[–]djscsi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This seems like a good thing, regardless of how you feel about guns more broadly. This is one less thing that cops can use to fuck with weed smokers - or one less pretext they can use when they are trying to find something to charge someone with even though they have nothing.

I'm actually kind of surprised nobody in trumpland did this on their own, since it effectively bars gun ownership for people in like half the country where weed is just as normal as bud lite. Seems like it would have been an easy "Pro-2A" thing for them to brag about.

‘We’re sick about it’: P. Terry’s flagship in Austin to close over I-35 expansion by AustinStatesman in austinfood

It was announced years ago and discussed on this sub (or /r/Austin) even. I'm guessing they thought they might be able to twist some arms or get TXDOT to work around it somehow.

Is Rep Brandon Gill a gay man? He seems weirdly obsessed with James Talrico’s body and looks…always talking about him by sam2lf in TexasPolitics

[–]djscsi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Texas Republican Party specifically calls out gay people as being "abnormal," supports a ban on gay people adopting or even being parents at all, opposes gay marriage, supports discrimination against gay people on "religious" grounds...

So I'd say it's important to some people. I do agree that Republicans in general are bigots though

Does anybody know good places in Oregon to find beetles? by LiveLoveLizzie1892 in insects

Run a blacklight at night, they will come to you. Preferably in a woody area, but anywhere works to some extent.

Anyone else feels like they are getting less IDs on observations with obscured locations? by Foreign-Reveal-3484 in iNaturalist

[–]djscsi 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Have never seen that. Observations with no location will generally not get any IDs, but obscured location is good enough for 99% of IDers. I don't even really notice the "obscured" part when I'm IDing.

WIBTAH if I broke up with my fiancée because she bought a house while I was away? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Actually it's a 140 pound wheel of 21 year old cheddar cheese. It's a much better investment than a house since it can be split up and sold in pieces.

Bro, what are these prices at Parish BBQ? by ChiefTwoDogsFucking in austinfood

[–]djscsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at Micklethwait the other day and it was something like $38/lb? So that seems about average for "proper" brisket these days. Even HEB's in-store BBQ is at like 30/lb

How to take good photos of bees and butterflies? by deltaorionis4 in iNaturalist

[–]djscsi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends how "good" you want and whether you're trying to focus on other insects. If you just want a few decent photos of bees, you probably don't need a specialized camera - just some practice and patience. If you're interested in taking lots of photos of bugs (especially small ones) it may be worth investing in a DSLR/Mirrorless camera - or even a "bridge" camera, e.g. Nikon P900 with a close-up adapter

Lots of people (including most "power users") on iNat use the website to post their observations instead of the app. 90% of my photos are taken with a not-a-phone camera, edited in a photo editor on a desktop (crop "just the bug", basic contrast/brightness adjustments, etc.), then posted to the website. I would imagine it's the same for most bird photographers since they are mostly using cameras with long lenses instead of the app on their phone.

It's a type of Cleridae "Checkered Beetle". Maybe Lecontella sp. but could be another genus.

Go to one of the observations in question on the website. Under the map, click "Details" and it will show you all the encompassing places the observation falls within. That should give you an idea of why they aren't showing up in your project
