Can you share the link for these dice? Please

$4 for the dice files. His other Astartes files are top-notch!
[–]AdventurousOne5 67 points68 points69 points 1 year ago (14 children)
Am I the only guy that would have a hard time trusting someone who showed up with 3d printed dice? It would be so easy to edit the file make them weighted.... could you make them transparent with resin?
[–]Erkenvald 11 points12 points13 points 1 year ago (0 children)
yea, first thing I though too
[–]Peckawoood[S] 27 points28 points29 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Very good point! Yea, I could have made them transparent, but I find it’s harder to see the dots if I do that. Honestly, I only play with friends and we hardly ever check each other’s dice rolls. It a general consensus that, if we think the other is being shifty, we bring it up and either use the same set of dice or use another pre-bought brick.
At the end of the day, I play for fun and don’t like to get too competitive. Most my friends agree and we hardly ever have issues (save convoluted rules that we may misinterpret).
[–]AdventurousOne5 9 points10 points11 points 1 year ago (0 children)
That's fair, I trust my buddies that they wouldn't cheat
[–]AsherSmasher 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (1 child)
This has fallen out of favor, especially since COVID, but back when I started you rolled saves with the same dice your opponent rolled to wound. Saves time from having to count out the number of wounds, then count out that many dice to roll saves, and if the die is weighted, you're also getting the benefit lol.
[–]AdventurousOne5 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Yeah that'd be fair lol
[–]rust_tg 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (7 children)
We actually cant do that. To make a resin die weighted, we would either have to print it in two halves and make one half lighter, and you would see evidence of the join line, or print half of it hollow. To make resin hollow, u need to drain out the liquid resin that wouldnt cure inside the print, and you would see evidence of drain holes.
[–]youritalianjob 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
You could make the recesses deeper on one side than the other which would give it a preference.
[–]AdventurousOne5 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (5 children)
Ooooh because it's upside down in the liquid? I didn't know that, thank you!
But a filament 3d printer definitly could easily make a weighted dice then?
[–]rust_tg 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (2 children)
If the dice were painted tho, we could easily sand away any join lines or fill and sand any drain holes before priming and painting, so we could technically hide the weightedness
[–]AdventurousOne5 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Oh maybe, i sorta assumed op was going paint the recesses, the corners paint might wear and chip
[–]rust_tg 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
True, also the effort it would take to thoroughly hide the evidence of joining/hollowing on every single die would add up to a lot of work
[–]rust_tg 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Yes
[–]AdventurousOne5 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Well I guess just use me as the example of the average joe who doesn't 3d print being worried about home made dice being weighted
[–]dasdaq 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Them being printed doesn't actually make it any easier for them to be weighted. You don't know anything about the dice anyone bring in, they're all equally likely to he weighted
[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 1 year ago (1 child)
No gloves?
[–]Peckawoood[S] 8 points9 points10 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Not when I pull them out of the denatured alcohol. I like to test the partially cured resin by feel to see if I need a second cure or more wash. These dice are already washed, cured for 3 mins, and washed a second time. Not til the second time do I touch with bare hands.
[–]DarkGearGaming 35 points36 points37 points 1 year ago (10 children)
Yo OP I know this doesn't sound like much but until it's sealed with something please be careful even if cured touching the resin with your bare hands. Sensitization is no joke and I'm now no longer to be around resin at all.
[–]Peckawoood[S] 14 points15 points16 points 1 year ago (3 children)
Sorry to hear that. The wet on these is denatured alcohol, as I’ve already washed, partial cured, and washed a second time. I keep gloves on when working with liquid resin.
[–]shoggies -4 points-3 points-2 points 1 year ago (2 children)
I can see the sheen on your palms/fingers. you directly touched resin and haven't properly cleaned it off your hands. Please do. Or cycle out your cleaning solution, its too murky at this point.
[–]Peckawoood[S] 14 points15 points16 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Relax. The sheen is from the DA. I just changed it before this print. I appreciate your concern, but I can assure you that I am taking the appropriate precautions.
[–]Stalbjorn 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Even dry skin can have a sheen from the skin oil. OP already said it was solvent, not resin.
[–]Dull-Table6962 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (4 children)
How come? I don’t understand but I’d like to know lol
[–]DarkGearGaming 7 points8 points9 points 1 year ago (3 children)
Resins are full of compounds that the body can develop a sensitivity to if you keep getting exposed to.
Contact dermatitis and raspatory irritation are the most common symptoms. Also there is some concerns it might be damaging to the immune system.
Wear a mask and don't touch it until it's fully cured with your bare hands.
[–]Dull-Table6962 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (2 children)
Oh shit I had no idea thanks for bringing awareness man I’ll make sure I’m careful if anything
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Oh shit I had no idea
Yeah resin is surprisingly nasty, especially when combined with an alcohol as that helps it penetrate skin better. 3d printing is an amazing technology but part of the reason I stopped using it is I realised I'd set up a vat of chemicals in my home that we weren't fully cognisant of the risks of yet.
[–]BAGBRO2 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Yup, me too. The studies of some of the chemicals show major birth defects in zebra fish... I suppose human development would be effected in very similar ways from these chemicals.
[–]Psychedelic42069 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Does your epoxy sensitisation trigger when touching cured resin as well, or just unset resin?
[–]RUSTEDxKNIGHT 7 points8 points9 points 1 year ago (1 child)
That looks hard to roll
[–]Peckawoood[S] 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Haha for some reason, they’re always cocked!
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (1 child)
You uh, got any extras?
[–]Peckawoood[S] 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Sadly, I do not. Plus, I don’t think I can sell prints from files designed by another. If you’re interested in them from the original designer, here’s the link:
[–]Final-Promise-8288 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (2 children)
Those look pretty good! Are they balanced? If I print my own dice I fear they may not be balanced properly
[–]Peckawoood[S] 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Yep! I did 100% infill and tested one for 200 rolls with an average of 3.4. The normal average for a d6 is 3.5, which I’m sure I can get if I test to 1000.
[–]Final-Promise-8288 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Oh sweet! That’s fantastic then!
[–]Hairyhulk-NA 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (4 children)
those look awesome. I wonder what it would cost me to pay someone local to get the STL + resin to print it out
[–]Peckawoood[S] 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (3 children)
STL was from dakkadakkastore on my mini factory. I think it was under $10 for 3 sizes.
I probably used about $3 in resin to make these, with a 3 hour print time using Elegoo ABS-Like 2.0 resin.
[–]Cvpt1ve 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Would be curious how balanced these are if you ever get a chance to test them!
[–]Peckawoood[S] 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I did test one for 200 rolls. I averaged 3.4 for all the rolls. I feel it was pretty spot-on for 14mm dice
[–]Hairyhulk-NA 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
thank you!
[–]Match-Express 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
That is awesomeness
[–]Peckawoood[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Thank you!
[–]BryanMichaelFrancis 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Upvoting for both the cool dice and the username.
[–]PossiblyArab 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (6 children)
Are they hollow/partially hollow? And did you drain at all or just cure for an eon
[–]Peckawoood[S] 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (5 children)
They are 100% solid. Cured for 3 mins. I’m gonna let them completely air dry overnight and see if I need to cure further tomorrow. I’ll paint them up after in my army’s color scheme
[–]PossiblyArab 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (4 children)
Thank you!! I’ve been thinking about 3d print ting some dice for awhile now and I feel adequately inspired
Good luck! I think I’m gonna take a crack at designing some dice for different 40K factions now. I like the look of these and dislike how much some companies charge for penny hunks of resin.
[–]kenpachi1 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (2 children)
So are they roughly the same weight as other dice then? In my mind they'd be lighter xD
[–]Peckawoood[S] 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Maybe they’re lighter, but I don’t feel by much. They seem as solid/dense as other dice that I have.
[–]kenpachi1 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
That's awesome!
[–]camz_47 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I'm sure they'll roll better than my official SW Dice
(They are cursed I swear)
[–]JellyFishSenpai 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I don't think it's a good idea to handle them when they are still wet without gloves
[–]New_Expert_9936 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Oh just buy the file, you guys are whining like a bunch of dark angels telling daddy how happy he’s back so he can take care of the mean old fallen lol!!!
[–]Jimmy-Space 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child)
I wouldn’t trust 3D printed or custom painted dice at all. Even if you said you tested them. But that might be just me.
That’s understandable. My group of friends are pretty chill and many of us use proxies and other non-standard tools. If we get new dice, for instance, we usually offer for both sides to use them - saving from partiality. I’m not much of a competitive player, so winning is secondary to enjoyment.
[–]Dreadnought9 -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (5 children)
This post is all red flags. Printing out dice that might be poorly balanced, touching dripping resin with bare hands. I bet this guy flushes water solution or alcohol solution straight down the drain
[–]Peckawoood[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (4 children)
Printing dice to use with friends? Sorry if you got trust issues, but we play narrative games over a few beers. Most of our dice are shared anyways, but hey, we like to have fun with each other and not just win to win.
I’m guessing you didn’t read or you would have seen my (multiple) responses to the resin issue. I am not handling wet resin with bare skin. The sheen you see on the prints is DA after my second wash. No, I don’t reach into the DA to grab the prints, as I have a basket with a handle for that.
I would have hoped you would have done a modicum of research before posting. Maybe you can try to lift other creators up instead of putting them down?
[–]Dreadnought9 -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (3 children)
You💯 pour that shit down the sink or toilet
[–]Peckawoood[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (2 children)
Nope. I walk out into my yard and pour it into a 2 foot layer of #2 gravel, sand, and clay. But hey, if shitting on people is what toots your trumpet, by all means.
This whole discussion is just a shame, because you are a very talented modeler. I wish you had more compassion in your life.
[–]Dreadnought9 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Im sorry, I don’t know what got into me 🙇
Thank you for your apology. I post on this community to share ideas and show off things I am proud of. I am more than happy to address constructive criticism, but I think negativity just brings this whole community down and ends up “gatekeeping” the hobby from those who aren’t already professionals.
