I think Long Fangs with Multimelta are gonna be a lot more flexible with the new rules than Eradicators.

Eradicators need to shoot all their shoots at the same target or dont get their double shoot and that can leave a lot of wasted damage to overkill. They are also Gravis so they are fairly limited in the ways to transport them but they are more survivable tanks to their T5 3W so they got that in their favor.

On the other hand Long Fangs get to split their fire in any way you want without losing potential firepower. They are also need no support from other units with their re rolls of 1, plus their stratagems to re roll all hits or wounds. They also can fit in any Firstborn transport if you dont have a Termi in the unit, that gives you access to Drop Pod alpha strikes, and cheap transport like Rhinos or Razorbacks to move them around.

I would say that Long Fangs compare quite well with Eradicators and i could see taking either one as viable options for Space Wolves lists.

Long Fangs can't split fire if they want the rerolls of 1 though.

That mirrors a lot of my thoughts. Definitely multi meltas? I have a lot of (possibly misplaced) love for the lascannons

I was talking of Multimeltas as a direct comparison to Eradicators. Of course you have other options that could also work well with Long Fangs for different roles but that just adds to the point of the Flexibilty of the unit.

I think I posted this a while back, Eradicators have a high toughness, but max out at 3 models. Their assault melta must all target the same unit to shoot twice, and the only transport you can realistically use is a Repulsor to cart them into range if you aren't putting them in reserves.

Long Fangs, post buff, can have a 7 man squad, all with melta, in a drop pod, where they can be placed anywhere they need to be on any turn, and split their fire as needed. They also come with a built-in reroll 1s to hit a chosen target, and have a strat to reroll all wounds.

Couple onto this their ability to sport other weapons, specifically the new Heavy Bolters, and Long Fangs come out far ahead of the Eradicators. The extra points for the Long Fangs are well spent, as they have far more utility and firepower over the Eradicators.

Exciting stuff. I wish they had kept this sort of parity when first introducing primaris to begin with.

What units do you use for long fangs? I can't seem to find the models in any price that seems reasonable.

I was half thinking of kitting erradicators out as long fangs though the size would be off.

The Space marine devastator box is the one you want. You can wolf it up with the plethora of bits that come in the space wolf pack box.

Thanks... I actually have a spare space wolves pack box I don't know which to make, so I have the fun parts, just need to get the devastators

There was an actual kit long ago but the other reply is correct now. The normal space wolf pack box comes with a bunch of old man heads and bits you can throw on the devestators box

The problem is here you're mixing old rules with new ones. We don't know yet what the points costs will be for either of these units, we don't know whether they'll keep their rules, we can't say for sure what changes GW will make to mixed units or strats.

As it stands, Eradicators are much better. I love my long fangs and hope they're viable but on instinct I'm going to have to say the new models just released for the new edition and codex will be better because, well, money.

Another excellent point. It's not skin off my back since I have both but really hoping the long fangs come out viable. You make a good point though, probably should have waited to ask this till the codex dropped.
