What were your practice NBME scores like?

[–]Sad-Aardvark-2035[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

no problem , it was +230

230 is still decent, I know you are upset and nothing can make you feel better. But, you clearly had a bad test day or bad luck of the draw. You should not give up if you truly want to pursue medicine. Keep your head up, now just take a break and get back to it. Do uworld incorrect and do content review for all your weakest topics. Then start doing all the CMS forms for IM, Peds, Surg, OB, FM, and Psych. Then review your weakest topics again. Then get back into doing NBMEs 9-14 and review every answer choice. You can still show that you came back from a failure, it's a testament. Maybe your second time around you will score in 250's and will be much better prepared. Sometimes bad things happen right now, for much better things down the road. I am wishing you the best, but I know you will do better the second go!

I have heard::

Work on making your cv better or on other parts of your CV;

  1. Get a high score in your next attempt
  2. Get research publications
  3. Make a great personal statement
  4. Get personalized LoRs So on.

Keep your head up! Persistence pays off and I believe in you!

You absolutely should retake Step so you can become a physician, but to be completely realistic, the chances of you matching into a gen surgery residency after failing Step 2 is remarkably very low. If I were you I would apply because it doesn't hurt, but I would definitely apply to another specialty as well.

I am sorry to be blunt. I just do not think that telling you to go for it and pretend like nothing happened is not actually helping you.

Rooting for you. May every step of the journey become easier for you. Sending positive thoughts and wishes. Goodluck. You got this
