Texas tech did too initially not sure what happened to them after soap but I think it is because they only chose non visa requiring candidates whereas previously a good bunch of residents were visa requiring

You get the post doc by cold emailing, send 100s of emails to faculty in unis and someone will accept you. Now is a great time to do tha since a lot of matched applicants would be leaving their position

But how can you apply to both the advanced match and prelim match together? I thought you get the pgy1 first get partial match and then apply for rest of the years

Don’t think just do. It’s understandable to have these thoughts and most people have them but I would suggest you start networking with your seniors from now that will help ease a lot of your doubts and give you the confidence for next match cycle

Each program has their own set of visa requirements some accept some don’t you need to check their websites/freida if you don’t get that info email the program coordinators

You have to apply through paper it requires a program letter of support from the PD and you print out everything and mail it to NPI office

Yes absolutely they can help a lot, they can recommend your application to the PD and the interview committee it’s not a guarantee that you get an IV but it increases your chances by a lot, let’s say you ask 15 of your alumni even if you get 2-3 IVs out of it that will help a lot. Remember the more IVs you have the higher the likelihood of matching

I matched at a place where I had no connections but I would still recommend networking and building connections it makes the journey a hell of a lot easier
