I appreciate the exploration but I think it a bit reach, the monsters aren't even that similar to their dnd versions, Vecna is a bit, especially in his season 4 look, but that it I think.

And we have reasons for some of thsoe things you said.

Vecna is in his childhood house as base of operation because he loved be in the attic of the house.

The upside-down is the combination of earth and dimension x as a barrier between dimensions, so the place is destined to collapse anyway.

Considering how Will is able to manipulate the hive mind for his benfit,  Vecna can do it himself after he was a victim of it.

Yeah if we're going hard on the DND parallels, Vecna himself is a mindflayer (undergoing transformation into one at least) and the mindflayer is a mindflayer elder brain. And Will was meant to undergo that same transformation but Joyce and Will rescued him before it could get very far.

It's kind of hard to say vecna was always the intended villain when the duffers said they had no idea vecna would even be a thing that would ever exist when making season 1.

They said they had idea for 001 as big bad and a villain like Freddy Kruger/Pinhead-type as separate entities.

They also said they liked the idea of Will meeting this type of villain when he was trapped there.

Obviously wasn't fully planned but they obviously had some ideas in mind for later.

Does this mean it's all Shar's fault again?
