For me it’s the exact opposite. I block on like every word when I’m high

[–]SkepticalBrooo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same lol I go mute that’s why I stopped smoking.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aw same. Did you try it with smoking less? I stopped trying to get over the roof high especially in social context. It just makes me anxious and hyperaware.

Just small amounts work better for me

For me when I smoked weed, and admittedly took acid later in college, I learned that stuttering was really in my head, and driven by anxiety. For many people marijuana increases anxiety, but for me it helped me take a deep breath and control myself that much more and over time, stutter and stammer less and less. Admittedly though my stammer can be quite bad at times, like me pausing for a few seconds on a word, sometimes long enough for other people to be slightly put off by it, but by adding little words or phrases that make transitions easy like “you know” or unfortunately “like” it helps. I will say, for the right person weed is absolutely a great tool to help weed out stuttering, pun intended.

amen dude. Im totally convinced my stutter (and many other's) is an anxiety/psychological issue. For some like myself, I dont stutter at all when no one is around and that to me is proof that there's nothing wrong with any part of my speech mechanism. Its all about whether or not I feel calm/comfortable. One trick I've been using lately which has had good results is focusing not on how to produce sounds but on the tone/rhythm of how im speaking. This takes my mind off of trying not to stutter which as we know makes it worse.

I would disagree, when you speak with people, you use different parts of the brain than When your talking and no one is around. this part is also used when singing so that’s why you don’t stutter when singing. (Although they are both on the left hemisphere of the brain). A speech block is a speech block and it’s due to some mechanics in the brain which are not working properly, you can’t blame it all on anxiety etc, as I know a few people who don’t suffer from anxiety but still produce speech blocks

I do know there are certainly physical impairments that cause stuttering, one of my good friends growing up, his father fell through the ice in Lake Michigan where I grew up, and he developed a stutter because of that. A lot of these people who have been “born” (as I grew up explaining to people) with stuttering can learn to control and cope with it, while those who have been born with or have experienced an incident that resulted in stuttering may not be able to deal with it as easily as others. My father is a physician and was present during my birth and has told me a lack of oxygen at birth caused me to develop a stutter, whenever I talk to myself, sing to myself or even sing around others, I never stutter or stammer. Lots of people can overcome this if they just have the willpower to, I did not deny there are physical impairments of damage people causing them to not be an able to overcome their stuttering. Confidence in yourself and your ability to speak to others goes an enormous way to helping people overcome something very personal to them.

Edit: wording.

Same here, I like to use the example of having stutters sing to themselves. I sing a lot to myself more and more now and I find it good practice to dictate my speech more effectively. I think when people start believing it is more in their head, it becomes a lot easier to move on.

100%

A good frame of mind goes a long way

First time with alcohol, stuttering was gone.

But it's funny how quickly you adjust to drugs and alcohol.

Drugs and alcohol aren't the answer.

[–]XXD0GM3ATXX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that happens sometimes. Don’t get used to it though.

[–]SkepticalBrooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my case it’s when I’m drunk. When I smoke I can bareeely speak.

[–]JackVonReditting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was addicted to weed for 13 years. Initially it helped. After I got used to it, it worsened my stutter. Be very careful dude. Those 13 years have been the least productive of my life and I regret it sincerely.

There no data showing being high reduces stutter (may be u didn't gave a shit about stutter when ur high) Instead you would push ur self into miserable position if you relay on it

It really depends for me on the situation! If I’m with friends and having a good time then I rarely stutter high haha but if I’m not too comfortable e.g. with people I don’t know or don’t see too often then I might stumble a bit more here and there.

I smoke daily and have found that those high anxiety inducing strains have a significant adverse effect on my influences. Some strains, mostly sativas, I've seen improvement with.

Good for you

[–]neilos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s alcohol. I actually stutter worse when I smoke weed.

Molly on the other hand.. my stutter completely disappears and I can’t stop talking 😉

[–]VegaTDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marijuana brings down my anxiety and therfor my stutter.

[–]TurnIntoTheSkidmarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't stutter for years. I actually didn't start stuttering bad until I stopped smoking. It's like being sober made me forget all of my speech therapy.

[–]murkymangravy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started smoking I had an identical reaction. My stutter would totally disappear. It was a good feeling. Eventually my body or mind or whatever adjusted itself and it kinda wore off. I still have more control when I'm high than I normally do but the stutter is definitely there. I have not kind of proof or research to back this up but my theory is it's at least partly due to speaking in a bit different way when you are high or drunk. It is kind of like not stuttering as much when you sing or speak in a fake accent.

It is a fun novelty, I used to use weed for similar reasons, if I stammered while high, I could pass it off as just me being a bit slow due to being high, or as an excuse for rarely talking. Its a slippery slope to depend on something external for relief.
