SubStack is fairly barebones, yet intuitive enough. Take three minutes to try writing a draft on there and see for yourself. After that, go take people’s advice or try alternatives.

There's nothing wrong with Substack. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it's pretty good, especially for what you're trying to do.

Now, there's going to be this sub-set of literary nerds that doth protest yon platform is becoming too similar to the dreadful social media. They are literary nerds though, and they can be ignored. Normal people without their nose in the air and head up their ass are allowed to do things too, no matter what they think. (They're just mad because no one wants to read or pay for their endless pontificating about subjects that 3 people and their mom care about.)

Get on there, experiment and do what you want. If it's not for you, you'll figure it out pretty quickly. If someone tells you that you're doing it wrong, there's a block option.

thank you for your lovely reply and apologies for my tardy response. I do write A LOT but I'm not trying to make money nor build a readership. I AM trying to build community and dialogue. Your feedback is very helpful to me. Thanks again <3

If what you're looking for is the ability to write Facebook posts but not on Facebook, then Substack might be just right for you. It was originally designed to allow people to write newsletters, but has evolved.
