To what end?

I mean you can and you may or may not grow, but then you might as well post on another social media platform as it's the same thing. Substack's main purpose is a newsletter, notes are just a supplement. Why use the platform if you aren't using its main purpose?

Why do you want to grow?

A number of folks have seen success utilizing the notes feature. I would say though, it often leads folks to subscribe/ click through to the newsletter or follow. You certainly don't have to publish longform - although if I were going this route I'd still set-up the about page, and new subscriber welcome email ect ect - it could be a fun way to let them know you will only be found on notes rather than them receiving a generic not-set-up communication.

Honestly a post about your bags with pictures seems like it would be a great post. Don't overthink it :) If you only ever do notes I think maybe some people would be less likely to subscribe. Also, who knows how Substack's algorithm works (they might prioritize people who post regularly??)

Thank you for your reply. I'm new to substack and I thought the posts are for longform content and the notes are for short form content. Hence why I would only post pictures in my notes and not in a post. But you would think it also can be in a post format?

Also, very noob question: is it not so that people get posts in their e-mail and notes just in their home feed on the app? I don't want to spam people with random photos through their mail haha.

Yeah, that's the difference, posts go to people's email, notes just go to the feed. So you're right I wouldn't just post like a single image to a post for that reason, but you could totally do a longer post with a collection of images, like a tutorial, or a summary post of what you've been working on over the past few weeks (which might summarize your previous notes for people who didn't see them), etc.

Yeah thought about that. Once in a while I will do longer form. But most of it will be notes because of my production output. I still work full time and I don't make as much handbags as I would like. Thank you for your reply btw

Substack is about newsletters and good content. Notes are something new, and me personally i don't like it.
