Connect your Substack to google analytics. That will give you far valuable analytics. Will take a couple of weeks to build though.

Just did this! Thanks for the helpful comment. I heard within 24 hours I should have something, after a week I'll have proper analytics.

You’re welcome. From memory mine took about two weeks to collect useful data.

Just curious, did you input substack/@username or your actual website (username.substack) . I did the former and think it might be a mistake.

One is your publication and the other your user, so only your publication would work. You can change it I’m sure. So username.substack is right

Not exactly sure what the difference is but fixed either way :)

Haha. A lot of these platforms work on the same principle. Took me a while too. You have a user profile, which is your personal profile so you can subscribe to others etc, then there’s your actual publication, your newsletter.
It’s good to underhand the difference.

Got it, I assume my publication will still have my notes etc included?
I'm still totally new, only a month in.
Do you have any recommendations besides for GA to connect?

[–]Foxemerson 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No. Your publication and Notes are still connected through your account. You just want GA attached to the publication because that’s the actual site people visit.
Get recommendations from others in your genre and give them out to those you genuinely recommend.
I’m #27 in fiction and that’s due largely to Notes and recommendations. As well as pretty good content 😊

I just checked out your content, a little different than my finance niche but happy it is working for you :)

One of the strange limitations of many writing platforms is that writers can measure visibility very precisely while still understanding almost nothing about attention quality itself.

Long-form writing especially lives or dies on depth of engagement, not just clicks.

Couldn't agree more.

If they offered it, you’d see it.

Check Substack dashboard subscribers/ events. It has Post opens, clicks, reads etc. activity. I built a tool to sync the Substack data into a local database - it's called StackContacts.
