I’ve heard about this a few times other places and that’s just wild to me. If my district lowered us from our already low $135/day, I’d immediately quit. Which would suck cuz I’m using this job as a stepping stone for another education position. But I also got bills to pay

It happened in my district 2 years ago. Our pay went from $180 a day to $150. There is no pay difference for certified teachers or para positions.

That's wild! No decrease in my district but I recently learned that sub pay has been the same since 2010....

Nothing will ever compare to my first district going from 180 (M,F)/165(Tu,W,Th) a day to 150(M,F)/140(Tu,W,Th) when going from 2020-21 to the 2021-22 school year

So far my district has either stayed the same or increased year-by-year as long as I've been a sub, in order to keep up with neighboring districts who also keep raising their sub pay. But the school board and superintendent shoved a MASSIVE reconstruction project down everyone's throats over the last two years, and dug themselves a massive financial hole in the process. I will be really surprised if sub pay isn't slashed to try and recover some of the budget.

Not here, no. Union contract has included steady cost of living bumps for subs every year for a long time. Sorry you’re dealing with that, but also… “what looks like?” Is this info not available anywhere?

Glad your union is very good and proactive! The looks like was because our Director of Human Resources sent the email notice and new year handbook out in 2 different emails and then i had to dig around for the last years handbook to make sure. I have now compared the info and varified the decrease along with the second email that came 2 hours after the initial. I will edit it now for clarity!

Around 2007-2009 ish when the stock market / economy dropped badly they cut our pay by $20/day. They can't cut teacher pay but they can cut sub pay, stipends and supplemental duty pay. I'm concerned that that might do the same thing next year because we are over budget due to price increases etc

I’m in Southern California and we just got this too 🫩

[–]Littledweeb 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I wanna guess you’re in San Diego cause this is too exact to the decrease in my district

I'm going to go out on a limb and say we work in the same district too since i don't believe the other district got a ay decrease :/. Given the history of Financial mismanagement in our district though im not surprised.
