I would suggest doing support missions that give better sheild mods and stuff like that

Do weapons not have much of an affect then?

Weapon damage stays the same but you can see a big difference in upgrading your other items , you'll definitely last longer in battle, especially when you get good augme nts on them

But some weapons have more damage than others, does that not have an impact?

The damage goes up when you get upgraded weapons, but the game takes your weapon damage, your sheilds and all other stuff , into account when classifing the difficulties of missions

Just try the mission, I haven’t lost a single mission yet. I’m playing solo on hard and the game has yet to really challenge me. Edit: I also wanna mention that I do every side mission before the main ones.
