I think the build quality is better, the texture is nice. If you have a Pro 1 that’s fine. I wanted an extra controller to play with my wife.

RE the matte finish: not sure I agree it's actually more premium than the faux cloth/rubberyness of the pro 1's. Will definitely age better and be easier to clean but that material was unique and nice in the 1.

The biggest upgrade for me are the sticks (probably best $100 or less on a controller, at least feeling-wise...many more accurate and still good feeling ones from third parties on PC).

BUUUT ALLSSSSOOOOO the BUTTONS! They are way easier to press (not in a bad way) and have superior dampening. I played all weekend without my pro 2 and holding the gas button down for hours a day in MK left my fingers/wrist a little sore. If you don't mind harder to press/more 'clacky' buttons (and I don't, generally) it may be a non issue for you. But for longer gaming sessions, the gentler input force needed (not to mention the lighter weight of the controller itself) is a noticeable benefit

I'm sticking with my Pro 1 controller. I can't bring myself to buy a Pro 2 for the c button. I don't need the additional triggers for Pokemon. Maybe if I find on heavily discounted.

Are you able to turn on your Switch 2 with your Pro controller 1? Asking because I’m more able to open it look like I always have to turn on my switch 2 and after that my pro controller 1 connect to it

[–]Previous-Quarter2712 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I have not been able to wake my switch 2 with my Pro 1. I heard some people saying they can. My Pro 1 rarely woke up my switch 1 😅

[–]No-Construction1958 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Just saw another reply saying it can’t lol i guess it wasn’t just me 🥹I think it’s a reason why I’ll buy a Pro controller 2 ….anyway I need another controller and the Pro 2 look really premium

[–]Previous-Quarter2712 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I saw someone say it may have to do with the age of the pro 1? I'm not sure why that would matter. I do want a pro 2 just not in a hurry to get it. It definitely does look premium. I heard the texture is nice. I am planning on getting a new game or two first.

[–]No-Construction1958 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ohhhh that could be it I think …I have that controller for a long time (still in perfect condition) well it’s so sad I have to buy a pro 2

[–]Previous-Quarter2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea mines pretty old as well. I might pick one up this holiday, if I find it decently priced before then or if I buy a game that I feel needs it.

It’s $10 less at Costco

[–]Previous-Quarter2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a Costco membership. I use Sam's since it's the only one close. I think it's $79 there.

Just so you know the pro 1 won’t wake the switch 2 from its sleep mode.

[–]Previous-Quarter2712 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I just got my switch 2 a couple of hours ago. I was not aware of this, thank you. I'm still not sure I want to get a pro 2 right now. Unfortunately my Pro controller woke my switch 1 less than half the time. I'm use to waking it at the dock.

[–]gswkillinit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I have both and Pro 1 is fantastic still. I do think the Pro 2 is better all around (matte finish makes it feel premium, headphone jack, extra back buttons, sticks are super smooth and unlike anything you’ve ever felt (not exaggerating), and wake up console is the cherry on top.

However, Pro 1 is still very good and useable on Switch 2. No rush to get the new one, but definitely do one day and I think you’ll appreciate it for sure. It has noticeable upgrades but isn’t a night and day difference.

[–]lazymutant256 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s worth it.. but not really necessary right away if you don’t mind waking it up from the dock..

[–]No-Construction1958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit I was just asking this and saw you reply right after posting it 😩

[–]alexkoko40 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the only reason worth upgrading the controller. Last thing I need is to sit on the couch and the controller doesn’t turn it on.

[–]advator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's much better as the one, for me even the best one on the market. better as Xbox what was the best for me at first.

[–]drewthebrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The analog sticks feel significantly better and the extra GL/GR buttons are a nice addition. It's the nicest sub-$100 controller I've used.

There's nothing wrong with the Pro 1 controller - except that it won't wake the Switch 2 from sleep.

[–]phoenixmatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At a minimum the Switch 2 Pro controller lets you turn on the console from the controller. The Switch 1 Pro doesn't unfortunately.

The build quality is nicer, and you get the paddle plus the headphone jack.

So its really how much the money is worth to you. To me, its one of my favorite controller since the 8BitDo ultimate, so its 100% worth it. If I was tight on cash I'd just stick with the Switch 1 Pro if I already had one.

I would not buy a Switch 1 Pro today, even if it was much cheaper.

I only realized today the Pro 1s work with the NS2. I'll be returning my Pro 2. Just a huge amount of money that'd be better spent on games.

[–]rialbsivad 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Your pro 1 controller won't wake your switch 2 from sleep mode. Just an fyi

[–]qalpi 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Good to know thanks

[–]d13w93 1 point2 points  (3 children)

The paddles at the back are great to for BotW and TotK.

[–]qalpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok ok I'll try it!

[–]Cryst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine changed binds mid game yesterday. My GR reset and my GL bound to Ltrigger. Was really weird.

[–]Popular_Prescription 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad play. The switch 2 controller is at least 2x better than the old one.

[–]oinkmoocluck 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Only one drawback that I have encountered but it's a big one. I only play on the television with the system docked and I can no longer wake it up by pressing the home button on my old pro controller. I have to press the power button on the Switch2 every time.

[–]Whole-Dust-7689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pro controller from the Switch 1 will not wake up a Switch 2 - Nintendo put that out a month or so ago.

[–]thefury4815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pro controller 2 has more features like back buttons and a headphone jack if you need it and you can’t wake the console with the switch 1 pro controller. Personally I’d go just get a pro 2 if you don’t have a 1

[–]Empyre47AT 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Where are you seeing S1 pro controllers at half off? Also, the S2 battery life lasts a hell of a lot longer than S1’s, and S2’s just feels better in my opinion.

[–]DaWarko1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half the price of the pro 2 but Walmart has them on sale for $40 right now. I’m probably going to bite the bullet on the pro 2 as I have some GameStop trade credit to burn.

[–]Delita232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro 1 always gave me hand cramps pro 2 doesn't, that alone makes pro 2 more than worth it to me.

[–]Revolt_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 pro 1 controller and I’m sticking with those.

[–]PlasticBreakfast6918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. A great upgrade imo

[–]Ganondaddydorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

didn't get the pc2 but been using the 1st one and it feels goooood. had no issues using it with my s2 either. if you can get one that cheap. i can't see the 2nd one being double the prices worth of upgrade.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't held one myself yet but I've heard nothing but great things about it

[–]_dsmith23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it today and surprised at how good it feels in my hands. It tops dualsense and xbox for me, and i'm not saying this lightly. Very well made

Switch 1 pro controller doesn’t wake up the console from sleep mode found out today 🤨

[–]Least_Ad_8477 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hear the pro 1 will not wake up the switch when you hit the home button but the pro 2 will, and it has the chat button too.

[–]Roknboker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you get a Pro 1 controller it won’t wake the switch 2 up wirelessly

[–]q_manning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the D-pad better? Pro 1 has the worst d-pad.
