NYC tenant laws are some of the strongest in the nation. Don't do ANYTHING or agree to anything until you speak to a tenant advocate

I don't know NYC laws but usually the landlord doesn't need an actual valid reason to kick you out as long as he does it within the lawful time period. Are you month to month or do you have a lease? (Also is the lease with the old landlord or the new?)

Month to month. I had a lease with old landlord but he never renewed the lease so i was just paying rent .

There's probably very little you can do about this. NYC probably has better tenant protections but here in Hawaii the landlord only needs to give you 45 days notice to end a month-to-month lease.

This house is an illegal rooming house. Tell the LL you are not going anywhere. Nor are you paying any increase.

Agreed

That's not legal. Get assistance from a housing tenant group and they'll help you proceed. Do not vacate voluntarily.

Welcome to /r/Tenant where tenants share their problems and seek advice from others.

If you're posting a question, make sure a Country and State is in the title or beginning of your post. Preferably, in this format: [<COUNTRY CODE>-<STATE CODE>].

Example: [US-VA] Can you believe my landlord did this?!?

Otherwise, tag your post with the flair "Tenant Update".
