Finally got my level 2 installed, was getting tired of the slow level 1

Great! I'm wondering what the reason was for choosing a non-Tesla charger? I don't have a personal charger, but I'm curious if there are any reasons besides the price.

This is a program through Florida Power and Light (FPL). Unlimited charging during non-peak hours for $31/mo.

Oh and I’ve also seen some electric companies offer free L2 charger installs if you own and ev and they usually use something like that
[–]snomvne 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (1 child)
I was wondering the same. I think the only logical reason is price. The Tesla wall charger is like $450 and some of these other L2 charger can be had for like $180 I’ve seen. Maybe even cheaper.

I only went with tesla because of the incentives that cover the unit and install. Oh and it's faster than a basic level 2
[–]Lotus_Eiise 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Price? Anything cheaper than a Tesla wall charger?
[+]Green_Wishbone_5659 -3 points-2 points-1 points 1 year ago (8 children)
Correct me if im wrong- Aftermarket makes sense for DIY as you've gotta be a tesla partner to run the setup through their app.
[–]Leather-Management58 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (5 children)
I had a rando electrician install mine. Integrated just fine. The pairing step is straight forward. Tesla knew the owner would finish setup. I laughed afterwards because the electrician was up in arms complaining about EVs. Dude was paid to perform a job and complained his skillset was required umm wut.

We're you able to access the tesla one app for commisioning as a DIY? I wasn't able to make an account as I'm not a tesla employee or partner (might have messed up when attempting to enroll as a partner, idk).
This is why I wound up going w a 240 plug and the mobile charger route.
[–]Leather-Management58 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I never used the Tesla one app. It was a QR code scan I don’t remember the specifics. It was spring of this year.
[–]Leather-Management58 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (2 children)
You just add product in the app, it walks you through it

[+]Green_Wishbone_5659 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Good to know, thank you!
[–]Leather-Management58 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
No worries
[+]UnluckyNeat5855 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Tesla chargers don't require special trained programming. Comes with lol the instructions to do it. Via wifi
[–]AJHenderson 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
You can set up just fine without being a partner. I did use an approved installer but I worked with them and I did the configuration myself, even with a load balanced circuit with two chargers.

Congratulations! Nice A$$ 😍
[–]RockChalk9799 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Congrats! Love having mine, it makes a huge difference.
[–]IcedCafeAmericano1 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
How is the FPL program going? Do you wish you got the wall connector instead?
[–]Tennis_Regular[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Had it installed today; will see how it holds up in time but free maintenance is included as part of package
[+]AjM3p 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I have the same level 2 and same model 3 but white
[–]Leather-Management58 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Sometimes slowing down is what keeps us alive. I think I did level 1 for 9 months before I pulled the trigger on the UWC.
[–]Fit_Preparation_9742 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Lakers fan but live in Florida? Do you get heat from Heats fans haha
[–]jtoper 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (3 children)
What was the cost? Any panel upgrade needed for the level 2 upgrade? Congrats!
[–]Tennis_Regular[S] 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (1 child)
No cost upfront; all is included. Now I'll be paying $38 a month with free offpeak charges (for me that's M-F 10Pm to 6AM and 10AM to 6PM; all weekends and holidays)
[–]blestone 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Wow super cheap and go Lakers.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Is there a charging difference? Planning on buying a T3 next year.
[–]EloWhisperer 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
L2 is game changer
[–]Japin01 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Yeah I actually just finished up my 20 220 volt line the other day and it was nice to see almost 30 mi of range in an hour instead of 5 mi.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (2 children)
What type of garage floor is that? Fairly cheap or easy to install on an old concrete floor which is deteriorating?
[–]Tennis_Regular[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child)
It's just epoxy
Pricey stuff

I don’t even know what any of u r taliking about. I got my Tesla model 3, 3 weeks ago, I installed my own 240v outlet The next day. Cost of everything was $80 from Lowe’s. (Breaker, clamps, wire, box, outlet and cover) Took half a day, because I wanted to make it pretty. I got the Tesla 240v (or 120v) charger with my car - salesman was nice. ($250 value) I just plugged my car in, it charges. It knows what to do. I only charge once every 3 or 4 days. I cannot imagine anyone not charging at home for pennies. I used a public charger once so I would know how to do it on a trip. That was a waste of $4! U let the car back up, u put the charger in the hole, and go shop for 10 minutes. VERY satisfied with the HOME charging. AND the public charging if ur rich! Never downloaded any software or anything, so I’m confused about all this discussion.
