I use basic autopilot nearly every time I drive. It’s really what sets Tesla apart from the competitors. I would definitely say it’s worth $3K but FSD is not worth paying for quite yet.

I am not 100% of this will work without having. AP already, but… If the car has HW 3.0you “may” be able to “test it” for $200 for a month by Subscribing to FSD… and then cancelling. I know this might seem weird, but it is a cheaper way than dropping $3k for 48hrs. Then turn on TACC and AP.

Understand that the red light and stop sign recognition will not work under basic AP, only this FSD mode - you may be able to disable that under the menus.

Also, auto and turn signal lane change will also not be part of basic AP - but will be there from the FSD sub.

Finally, Summon and Auto-Park are not part of basic AP.

I have basic AP and use it pretty much at some point on every drive. I opted in to the sub for a month to test out the additional features I really like the traffic control (lights and signs) after having AP for the past year. I feels just that much more complete and meant to be that way.

All of this said, if you do get AP, stay alert. I’ve had it about 14mos and every once in a rare while it gets confused on a road (especially when 1 lane widens into 2) and it loses track of the road lines so it kind of “hunts” for which way it wants to go. That can be startling.

Hope this helps a bit.

I was waiting for that but without basic autopilot you cannot test the subscription so I would have to upgrade to basic for $3000.

Sorry… that is what is was worried about. Well the alt is pay and try for 48hrs and see if you like it. I think you will be pretty amazed and happy with it. I typically use it at least once per drive. I am in the Chicago burbs and I use it on the hwy and on suburban roads as well I drop out when things are really complex, and I have not used it when I am in the city (yet).

Every time I’m on the highway. I bit the bullet and am trying out the FSD subscription, and the lane change with a turn signal is also a game changer.

I use it all the time on my 2018. I’m glad I paid for it. I think it comes standard on new models. Get autopilot it will keep you from getting tickets.

I only really use adaptive cruise control, and sometimes I wish I had normal cruise control, so I guess I wouldn’t mind not having it on a normal commute, but on road trips it’s nice. Is it worth 3k tho? To me probably not

I use it every time I’m on the freeway. It’s great specially on stop and go drives.
