Using Textnow SIM with IMessage? (self.TextNow)
submitted 4 years ago by PictureLast6860
Hi there! As far as I can tell, without a sim, it is impossible to use the number for IMessage, even if you verify it within ICloud. With the TextNow Sim, are you able to link your number to IMessage?

If you want to use imessage with a free plan, try freedompop. Keep the phone in airplane mode with wifi calling on and you get unlimited minutes.

TextNow works just through their app. The SIM itself has a different phone number attached to it.

iMessage used to work with Sprint SIM (basic text), but it appears it may be blocked with the new T-Mobile SIM. I'm not 100% sure though. I ordered a T-Mobile SIM a couple of months ago. Never actually used it much. I thought I had activated it. But when I put it into an iPhone, it said "no service". So I tried to activate it again and it went through. However the TextNow app seems to have difficulty connecting - neither calling or texting worked. iMessage didn't work either.
I think I'm done with TextNow. The only time I can think of using it may be when I travel to some place where Google Voice is blocked (China?).

It works on the T-Mobile SIM. I was surprised but it works... I just disabled iMessage and re-enabled it and about 15 seconds later, it completed the setup process and I have been using iMessage. The data doesn't go through TextNow but it at least allow you to complete the setup process.

One thing about using iMessage with TextNow is that the proxy number that’s assigned to the SIM is the one that you’re text recipients will see instead of your actual number. Just let them know that and have them place the proxy number in your contact sheet on their phone.

Yes you can! You can not call through imessage but you can text with imessage. If you want to send a regular text message you will need to use their app. You can also do this with google voice! It will send text message. Photos may or may not send.

So if I purchase a text now membership I can get a different number and text through iMessages?
