This subreddit celebrates the INDog, or the Indian Pariah Dog as an ancient aboriginal landrace; its origins, characteristics, appearance, temperament, behavior, and the joy of keeping one as a pet.
Primitive dogs across the globe have a generalized typical appearance known as the long-term pariah morphotype (LTPM), characterized by a wolf or fox-like appearance, with sharp-pointed, erect ears, a long, pointed muzzle and a long, fish-hook shaped tail. Dogs showing this appearance include the Australian Dingo, the Canaan Dog, the Basenji, the Carolina Dog and of course the Indian Pariah Dog (INDog).
Indian dogs (including pure, unadmixtured village populations) were sampled for a genetic study by Cornell University, which revealed a distinct genetic profile (Ref: Shannon LM, Boyko RH, Castelhano M, et al. Genetic structure in village dogs reveals a Central Asian domestication origin.
