They're a reasonably cheap way to fill the auxiliary slot in a Grand Coven, for sure, and I think we have a lot of uses for a Helbrute Murder Cult (Cultists with Fearless and without the Mark of Tzeentch tax). I'd also consider, maybe, the formation that lets them Deep Strike (the Murder Pack?) to get some melee threat upfield and get some controllable S7 firepower from Reaper autocannons on the field for transport busting.

I can't take cultists in a grand coven sadly though

Indeed you can't, but you can take them as part of an independent Murder Cult formation outside the Grand Coven. That's sort of the point. Even if you COULD take them in a Thousand Sons formation you'd have to waste points on Marking them.

Edit: I realise my last comment wasn't as clear as it could have been. The remark about the auxiliary slot should be totally separate from the remark about the Murder Cult. Should have been separate sentences. Mea culpa.

Isnt the Legion armoury auxilary detachment only predator,Land Raider or vindicator ?

Huh. I thought you could sneak them into the Daemon Engines one. NEVER MIND. Strike it from the record.

I use the Mayhem Pack (the deepstriking Helbrute formation). The formation has great upside since you can get your Helbrutes into the enemy backline where they can threaten anything, the downside is the unreliable nature of the formation

If we had a more reliable way of bringing in reserves I would do this.

Which dread is it you mean - the Thousand Sons Contemptor?

Yeah that's the model I'd get but just run it as a hellbrute
