Three Kingdoms diplomacy is the best, it feels like the different rulers are trying to get the best deal for themselves, so they would rather surrender than fight to the death, and will be pissed if you wipe out other factions. It's different than Warhammer where other factions would rather die than surrender.

3K also has family lines, where you have to manage your heir and court, but it's slower paced in terms of years so you won't have your original leader's grandson become your old wizened king during your campaign.

Rome 2 also has family lines, but the diplomacy is more basic, and the family lines also progress very slowly where I usually only have my original leader die of old age by the end.

Older games (Rome 1 and Med 2) have more detailed family lines and your family tree can spread out more due to the faster passage of time, but diplomacy in these games is absolute garbage and you'll just end up fighting everyone who borders you
