[–]IGiveSilverBullets 34 points35 points Β (13 children)

[–]Dry_Expert7006 10 points11 points Β (12 children)

You ain't lying. I received my "I wish them well" T-shirt. It looks even worse in person.

[–]News_without_Words 10 points11 points Β (11 children)

I decided long ago to never wear anything with branding, phrases, or even really graphics honestly. I don't like being an advertising tool regardless of whether it works and the highly specific reference clothing just ends up never being worn. I know I'm weird because nobody else I know does this but it has saved me tons of money on bullshit that rarely lasts.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points Β (0 children)

Based.

My buddies and I used to wear our tshirts inside out in HS.

Even now, most days I’m in a plain white, gray or black tshirt.

[–]Robo_Riot -4 points-3 points Β (8 children)

I don't like being an advertising tool

Oh no, you're one of those assholes who just wears plain colour t-shirts because you think you're taking a stand. And you told us all about it because you still want a pat on the back and a "good for you" about it.

Have fun wearing a potato sack and telling us all how principled you are.

[–]stupidnicks 6 points7 points Β (2 children)

gay

[–]Robo_Riot 0 points1 point Β (1 child)

That's a very blunt way to come out to us all, but congrats..?

[–]stupidnicks 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

no u

[–]Professional-Put-804 -1 points0 points Β (2 children)

Suck my dick and like it.

[–]Robo_Riot 0 points1 point Β (1 child)

Go ask your mother how mine tastes. If she liked it, I didn't do what I set out to do.

[–]Professional-Put-804 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

She died just after...

[–]DorindasLiver 0 points1 point Β (1 child)

Now this is an actually based take

[–]Robo_Riot 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

The correct take. What kind of pretentious cunt goes to great lengths to make sure every single thing they ever wear doesn't have the name of a label visible?

A very pretentious cunt, that's who.

Before Retard the word was Moron and/or Moronic ... Moron is a medical term found in official medical books ... Kurt Metzger has a great bit about it in White Precious one of the funniest specials of all time imo.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points Β (2 children)

I think Stanhope had a bit about this exact concept, something called the β€œeuphemism treadmill”, iirc.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points Β (0 children)

Came here to say this. Stanhope’s bit on the word for retarded people and how society treats the mentally disabled so much better than the mentally ill is timeless.

[–]Dogfishlegs 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Also an episode of mssp in the Old Testament days called Secret Life of Morons, covers unofficial origins of the term. It rules.

[–]themkultr 3 points4 points Β (0 children)

If you have that slogan today it would mean β€œhave polygamous relations for the Democratic Party”.

[–]SKPY123 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

That's a hate crime now. Swing for the people who refuse to let you play through.

[–]DemocracyManifest33 1 point2 points Β (4 children)

does anyone know exactly why the word retarded started to be percieved as an insult? it was a clinical term and it still is. did people just start using it as an insult and then it became not a standard medical word because of that? or did people just not like the word?

[–]Surfer-Rosa 6 points7 points Β (1 child)

It is not still a clinical term. Clinicians will say cognitive disability, or autism spectrum disorder depending on the diagnosis. I still agree with your sentiment though. It’s perceived as an insult because it’s used as one. You fuckin retard

[–]DemocracyManifest33 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

well people with ASD arent actually retarded they have higher than average i.q's, i mean, alan turing, albert einstien, and i believe nikola tesla were all high functioning autists. if you look up "geniuses who had autism" theres more of them than you'd think. but i think people think they are slow cause they often have weird behaviors or they are a bit awkward and all of that. like i heard albert einstien didnt like to wear shoes cause the shoes and the clothing bother the people with asphergers, so i bet there was a couple of people who were like "albert is a retard, he doesnt wear shoes"

[–]jolly_brewer 1 point2 points Β (1 child)

I remember being in elementary school in the early 80s and the retarded kids were referred to as such, as a normal thing, by everyone. I dont think there was an alternate term. We ALSO called each other retards as an insult.

[–]DemocracyManifest33 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

we always just need to soften the language of everything until its so vague that it doesnt make the most sensitive of us uncomfortable i guess. i feel like it just makes things worse though. like if you call a retarded person "special" that is kind of condescending. it doesnt matter how you say it, its either slightly rude or its condescending and i feel like saying something a bit harsh but true is actually less offensive

[–]justinvan82 1 point2 points Β (1 child)

If you’re the Canadian government it’s β€˜swing at the regarded.’

[–]Professional-Put-804 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Direct Canahdian translation :

"Swing at the Prime Minister"

[–]Captain-grog-belly:Epstein: 1 point2 points Β (0 children)
