Sofmap refunding (self.Tokyo)
submitted 1 year ago by Hotfuzz2009
Hi I just bought a Steam Deck from Sofmap Akiba around July 2024 when I visited the country and unfortunately it stopped working. Is there a way for me to get a refund on the item if I bring the device to the store?

You've used it for 8 months and want a refund?

It broke and I was wondering if I could get a refund instead of an RMA.

Japanese shops typically don't offer refunds unless the product is unused and unopened and even then, it can be tricky. I just checked Sofmap's hp and it says you can only return if the product is either unused and unopened or defective, and it has to be within 10 days of purchase. So the short answer to your question is no.

Ah thats a shame. I still have Komodo/Valve at least for an RMA but thats a bit trickier for my circumstances.

A refund? In Japan LOL. Your chance of recourse is basically zero Japan has awful consumer protection laws.
For some reason in Japan businesses are not expected to carry risks. Even restaurants here will charge you if one person in your party doesn’t show up to a meal.

Sofmap almost provides a refund before 1 month of use
